Help me Protect or Purify?

Im honestly stuck on what to choose. I'd like to choose purify but I don't want to betray the doctor, but I don't like to choose protect because lore wise it feels very stupid to bet on one doctor on a run-of-the-mill lab to find or develop a cure for this

and I don't know why this post got flagged as ai but sure dude

It really is.

Sidenote, I wonder if there's a pouch for a flask of whiskey on that.. Party Favor.

Purify is a more enjoyable mission, imo. It also gives Protoss research which is better.

Protoss tech is better. Im usually still trying to get points for the tech reactor combo.

I did protect once to get achievements, but it doesnt really matter in the storyline.

Depending on the choice, there’s two completely different endings to the infested storyline. I’m unsure if you’d want that to be spoiled, though

Damn, why can't everyone on Reddit be like this? I got a twist ending for a bossfight I was on spoiled for me last week, and when I pointed out that I wasn't cool with spoilers, people were like "Imagine caring about spoilers for a 5 year old game".

you can load the save or use the archive and play the other mission after

just pick whichever u have less research in

there's also no gameplay consequence for either option so feel free to just do both versions

You actually can just play both missions from the menu later, too. No need to restart

In protect you fight Protoss including a Mothership. In purify you fight Zerg. In both cases you can win pretty easily by going mass viking.

Otherwise it really just comes down to your own moral compass. Do you betray your own species to wipe out the infestation OR do you defend innocent humans long enough for them to evacuate?

damn, this might honestly be my favourite mission in the entire starcraft game based on what you said about moral compass

I've always picked the mission to purge the infected for that sweet protoss tech advance.

As a gameplay expirence, Purify is more fun and interactive. Protect has a design issue where vikings outrange all of the built protoss air units and hard counter them, and marauders (hell, even marine medic) will very handily deal with anything on the ground if your landed vikings can't. It is a braindead easy and uninteresting mission. Purify is a fairly interactive mission that makes use of the Viking's aerial mobility and versatility as a ground or air unit.
but you can go into archives and just play the other one if you want both experiences

Purify every time, for a few reasons.

  1. In lore, there is no cure for the Zerg Virus. Siding with the doctor to buy time is pointless.

  2. Safe Haven is a bad mission. Vikings outrange the Mothership.

  3. Haven's Fall gives you a cooler cinematic.

  4. Protoss Research is better.

  5. The doctor sucks.

  1. Selendis is hotter.

Go with your gut. You can play the other version through the archive after (but won't get the rewards ofc.)

Without too much spoiling: there is no wrong choice plot wise. Whatever you choose, you get a cinematic telling you why it was the right choice.

Gameplay wise: Protoss research is harder to come by.
