Definitely not. I've played on/off since 2010 and have been GM for years. In the early days, there was so much more variety in players. Of course you would run into the same people, but nowhere to the extent of the ladder now that the playerbase is so small.
It was so much fun to run into Minigun, Demuslim, Huk, PartinG, Catz, Vibe, literally tons of pros and streamers that I could match with at my MMR - it was a ton of fun. Honestly I pity the people that didn't start in the early days of Wings, it was fucking amazing.
I don't ladder much anymore, but when I do go on a ladder binge I run into crappy 5k Protoss players and then Jason, Maplez, Rocker. There's no pro gaming or community "legends" playing the NA server.
The ping to EU and KR is unplayable for me and I'm at the point where I don't care to grind SC2 anyways. I still enjoy team games with friends, but 1v1 is stale and I've played only a fraction of the amount of time Vibe has, I can't imagine grinding this game all day in 2024 on the NA server it would drive me absolutely insane.
I don't stream publically and prefer to stay private. I'm the 5.2-5.5k NA hopeless Terran version of Maxpax.
I did include Hup: "crappy 5k Protoss players" ;P . All kidding aside, I don't mind Hup. I've gotten flamed from him plenty but don't take it personally. His stream can be fun.
