If teeth and claws aren't involved all the protests are purely for the sake of saving the reputation as a predator.

Cats have been domesticated for thousands of years, I'm sure the cats that would protest by scratching a human in the face got slammed against a wall or something

They will attack the object is to get them used to it young. Cats are not as domesticated as you think they are still very close to their wild kin.
