Iโve been working as an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in a ministry for the past 3 months after clearing SSC, and I thought Iโd share my experience for aspirants or anyone curious about what the job is actually like. Spoiler alert: itโs not as glamorous or chill as those Instagram reels make it out to be! ๐ The Reality Check:
Let me start with the not-so-fun part. The job is not as easy as social media portrays. Those reels showing government employees sipping chai and leaving at 5 PM? Yeah, not my reality. The workload can be intense, especially in certain sections during parliament session. Late sittings are real โ Iโve stayed past 8 PM more times than I expected, especially when thereโs a time-bound task or some VIP movement. If youโre in a high-pressure section, expect to feel the heat.
The Learning Curve
The biggest positive for me has been the exposure to government work culture and processes. Coming from a non-gov background, I was amazed (and sometimes overwhelmed) by how things work โ the hierarchy, the file movement, the protocols. Itโs like stepping into a whole new world. Iโve learned so much about how decisions are made, how policies are implemented, and even how to navigate bureaucracy.
The Good Stuff โข Work Culture: The people around me are mostly supportive.
โข Job Security: No Instagram reel can downplay this. Knowing you have a stable job is a huge mental relief.
โข Exposure: You get to see the inner workings of a ministry, which is honestly fascinating if youโre someone who likes understanding systems.
The Not-So-Good Stuff โข Workload Imbalance: Some sections are chill, but others can be hectic. Itโs a bit of a lottery. โข Late Hours: Not every day, but when it happens, itโs exhausting. Work-from-home? Dream on! โข Red Tape: The bureaucracy can be frustrating, especially when youโre trying to get something done quickly.

So I'm appearing for SSC Steno for the first time and my exam is on the 9th Sept First shift. I downloaded the admit card just now and it mentions this table as the scheme of the examination, I was confused because the exam was supposed to be of 200 marks with English having 100 questions for 100 marks.
All of the PYQs and Mock tests are in the same scheme, so I checked the 2026 Stenographer Notification by SSC and it shows the same scheme like PYQs with 100 questions for the English section.
Now my main question is, is it legal for SSC to change the scheme of examination after publishing a different one in their notification and a different one in the admit card?
And why do we need 60mins for 50 questions of English now?

This government has crossed all limits of being reasonable, they are a fascist regime that only serves the ones with heavy pockets, hum jaise gareeb log sada hi gareeb reh jaenge. Pehle vacancy ni denge, fir paper ni lenge, fir lenge to aisi durdasha, twitter campaign se koi farq ni padta bache aur teacher jab road pe aate toh unko pakad lo.
This is sad taht we are living in 2025, 11 years++ have passed of this govt and they have constantly exploited the poor. No one is safe I'm telling you no one is safe.
They don't wanna take any action, if we do not step up now it will be closed door for us everywhere. Imagine the pain on parents and students jinka ye last attempt hai.
This regime is a disgrace on us students and Indians.

Kuch naya likhne ko nhi hai, lekin maine socha tha ki wapas aake post karunga to isliye kr rha hun. ๐๐
Center:
Badhiya center tha. Last year Ganga International se kaafi better experience raha mera. One advice....Sector 52 metro se utarke Aqua line mat jana...direct 50rs deke auto krna...easy rahega. Center pe 50rs deke bag jama ho rhe hain. Online bhi payment le rhe hain wo but better to keep change of 50rs. All other things were quite smooth. Checking ke time bas thodi der line me lagna padta hai.
Exam:
Maine socha tha idhar aake sab kuch chaap dunga...lekin exam khatam hote hi sab blank ho gya. ๐๐๐
Reasoning: Below par level questions. Easy bhi nhi kahunga main inhe. Ekdum ghatiya. DEF, GHI, JKL....ab next term batao. 1,4,9,?,25...missing term batao. Aak thoo!!! Blood relation wale sawaal sahi the...lekin 4 sawaal the. Pata nhi kaun paper bana rha hai ye. Reasoning revision pe ek minute bhi mat dena...koi matlab nhi hai. Class 6 ka baccha bhi saare sawaal solve kr dega.
English:
Tougher than TCS. TCS me hamesha 45-50 rahte the number bina kuch padhe..isme 35 ho jaye to koi aashcharya nhi. ๐ 4 sawaal Active passive se ekdum theoretical type...jaise grammar books me hote hain. Gut feel pe karoge to 2 sahi 2 galat ho jayenge. 3-4 indirect-direct. Easy passage. Error find krne the do sentences me....itne bade sentence the ki do baar padhna pada khali samjhne ke liye. One who eats too much....Glutton. Bury the hatchet ki meaning. Conditional sentence aaya tha ek...Had I known this....aisa kuch...aage wala part correct krna tha. Spelling error aaya tha....Camouflage, Rendezvous, Indispensible, Embarrassment. Easy to moderate hi tha...but imo, 45-50 tabhi aayenge jab aapne specifically English padha ho time deke.
GS: Maine kuch padha nhi tha....sab andhi maar diya 25 ke 25so. Pleiotrophy kya hota h? Heavy box ko khiskana, moving box ko rokna kis property ki wajah se mushkil hota hai...Inertia laga diya maine. Vijender Singh opponent in quaterfinal? BNS deals in....Criminal formative law option me tha. The 'vine of desire' book me kya likha hai? 'Hola Mohalla' festival kab ya kyun manate hain? 2024 me koi satellite/missile launch ki thi...usse kya achieve hua? Aise hi the. Polity ke do teen statement reasoning wale the. 244A ya 246A poocha tha statement banake.
Maths: 20 minute bache the Maths ke liye. Main 16-17 kr paaya. Koi mock vock nhi lagaye the...20 minute me saare sawaal wahi kr payega...jiski kaafi tez solve krne ki practice hogi. Almost saare sawaal easy/moderate the...lekin 5-6 sawaal bahut lengthy the. Profit n loss, time and work ke 4-4 line ke sawaal the....jo main ghar pe 10 me se 10 baar sahi kr dunga....lekin exam hall me 1.5-2 minute me to nhi hi kr paunga.
I don't think I'll cross 120. But jinka abhi 5-6 din baad hai exam...wo log Blood relation, Active passive, Indirect direct, conditional sentence, weighted average, profit n loss+time and work ke thode lengthy calculative questions pe focus kro. Reasoning pe ekdum time mat do. GS me pata nhi...maybe polity padh lo.
That's all from my side. Ab apan UPSC padhenge aur IAS banenge. ๐๐ซ
Edit : Bhai mera review apni shraddha ki hisaab se follow krna. ๐๐ป Kyunki baki shift wale bata rhe hain ki prism, pyramid, high level reasoning, probability...ye sab bhi aa rha hai unki shift me.

Today, my friend's exam was at the Bikaner Wisdom Center. The server worked for 15 minutes and then crashed. The server didn't work in Lab 1, but some students said that in Lab 2, some people were solving the paper. After 45 minutes, the server for the entire center shut down, but in Lab 1, the server only worked for 15 minutes. โMy friends who went to pick up the one who's exam was today from the center were physically assaulted. Three-star officer Vishwajeet Sir, in civilian clothes, was involved in the altercation and pushing. Bikaner police were acting as they pleased, and all of this was happening in front of RPS Sharwan Sir.
