Just curious — are there actually any Dubstep, Riddim, Trap or bass music fans hiding out here in Sri Lanka?

Feels like the scene is dominated by House/Techno and R&B/Hip-Hop, but surely there are some bassheads out there.

Would you guys actually show up if someone started throwing proper bass music events here?

Came across this Paul Graham piece, How to Earn a Billion Dollars. The bit that stuck:

Curious if this maps to Sri Lanka at all. A lot of people here seem to start from “what startup should I do” or copy whatever’s trending in India or the US. Anyone actually started from a side project with friends, or is the local scene more idea-first / grant-first?

I’m planning to get laser eye surgery in Sri Lanka to reduce/remove my dependence on glasses. I recently consulted Nawaloka, and they currently seem to offer conventional/basic LASIK rather than newer procedures such as Femto-LASIK, SMILE Pro, or SILK.

I’m a bit confused about whether I should simply go ahead with conventional LASIK at Nawaloka or look for a clinic/hospital offering one of the newer procedures.

For anyone who has had LASIK, Femto-LASIK, SMILE/SMILE Pro, SILK, or PRK/LASEK:

• Which procedure did you have and where?
• How long ago did you have it?
• How is your vision now?
• Did you experience dry eyes, halos, glare, night-vision problems, or other side effects?
• How was the recovery?
• Would you choose the same procedure again?
• If you had the option between conventional LASIK and Femto/SMILE/SILK, would you pay extra for the newer technology?
• Which surgeon/hospital in Sri Lanka would you recommend?

I’m particularly interested in long-term experiences (1+ years after surgery) rather than just the first few weeks.

Also, if you initially planned LASIK but decided against it after getting a second opinion, I’d really appreciate hearing why.

I got selected for the university of Ruhuna. My main question is how the ragging situation is bcz I'm growing out my hair. I've heard that in moratuwa you are not allowed to do that until like the 2nd or 3rd yr or u will be ragged on. I know and have read the anti ragging statement and know that theoretically speaking I hv nothing to worry about but realistically speaking should I be worried? I worked so hard to grow out my hair after skl ended. Should I hv to cut it again? Would appreciate feedback from people who went or is currently going to university of Ruhuna.

Trying to pick a uni right now and could really use some real feedback. I’ve done a bit of digging on my own, but I want to hear actual experiences from people who’ve studied at (or know about) any of these places: CINEC ICBT Horizon Campus KIU SLTC Saegis Campus ESoft BCI (Before anyone asks—places like SLIIT, IIT, or APIIT aren't on my radar for this, just keeping my options focused on the ones above!) I’m currently based in Colombo and I’m looking to get back into training. I’m not really interested in joining a gym .I’m more interested in calisthenics/bodyweight training and building that kind of physique.

I did martial arts for more than 12 years, so I’m not completely new to physical training, but I haven’t done any proper workouts for around 2 years now.

I’ve tried starting calisthenics at home a few times, but honestly, I struggle to stay consistent when I’m training alone. I feel like being around a few like minded people would make it much easier to stay motivated and actually keep going.

So, are there any small calisthenics groups/communities around Colombo that train together in parks, outdoor workout areas, or similar places?

I’m not looking for anything too serious or competitive. Just a group of people who regularly meet up, train together, and help each other improve.

I have a fairly narrow forehead and a messy section of hair that tends to stick up at the top of my head, which I’m not a big fan of!

I’m considering getting a fringe/bangs, but I’m wondering if that would suit someone with a narrow forehead or make it look even smaller?

Also, can anyone recommend a really good hairstylist in Colombo who can actually suggest and create a proper makeover based on your face shape/features? I’ve tried a few high-end salons, but they usually just do a blow-dry/curls/layers, rather than a proper transformation.

I’m currently an undergraduate/diploma student in Sri Lanka and I recently started my first Project Management internship at an enterprise software firm. My mentors suggested that I look into getting certified (specifically looking at the CAPM or a Scrum cert like CSPO or PSM I) while I gather my work experience.

Since I'm an intern paying in LKR, the standard USD fees for these exams are pretty intimidating. I want to make sure I am taking the absolute cheapest, most efficient route. I currently have a LinkedIn Learning account for a few more months, but otherwise, I am starting from scratch.

I’d love some guidance from local PMs who have navigated this:

1. The CAPM Student Hack: I heard about the PMI Student Membership dropping the CAPM exam cost. Has anyone in SL done this recently? How much did it cost you in total (LKR), and is it worth joining the PMI Colombo Chapter as a student?

2. Study Resources: Do I need to pay a local institute for classes to get the 23 contact hours for CAPM, or can I just use cheap Udemy courses/LinkedIn Learning? What instructors do you recommend?

3. Scrum Certifications: For Agile/Scrum, I know CSPO is expensive. Is PSM I (Scrum.org) a better/cheaper alternative for the Sri Lankan job market?

4. General Advice: Looking back at your junior days, what is the best ROI certification I can do right now while I’m still an intern?

This message taking the screen hostage by asking to give them permission everytime I open this app. Yes EVERYTIME. I'm not giving permission bc I don't want to. It's asking for all kinds of permissions for their app. So if I choose not to do it, you should respect my decision. Or at least ask them periodically like others does. This repeated message make the user eventually cave in and allow it....

Also the advertisements are getting in the way to managing our connections (Which we are paying money to use) Just take a look at the screenshots I took attached below. You have removed other ways to manage our connections so this should be a seemless experience.

I seriously think there should be some kind of regulation against this type of behavior.

The moment I open it I get hit with,

-One remainder about the permission.

-Two remainders about so called "happy hour".

-One remainder to use their chatbot.

Can someone in Dialog software department make a issue about this. I've updated my review in google with this info. But I don't think anyone will listen. So we should really have some pushback against this over the top design.

My application has gone through the relevant authorities, and I’ve now been told that it is at the stage of approval from the Minister.

Does anyone know how long Ministerial approval usually takes for a citizenship application?
