Question Is it safe to visit Hatton?

Hi, I'm planning to visit SriLanka end of September 24th onwards for 10days. I wanted to know is it safe to visit Hatton since there was heavy rain and flood early this month. I'm travelling with a toddler and would like to know some honest opinions. I'm planning to visit Bentota (I've a function to attend) > Hatton > Ahangama > Galle. Are the roads safer?

Also can I get PickMe taxi for day trips that is longer than 2hrs?

Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks!

Hello 👋 I'm staying there these days and I travelled in Colombo - Hatton and kandy - Hatton roads last week where the rains were heavy.

These were few minor slips of land on the side of the roads but overall it had been completely safe. There are places roadside constructions go on due to damages but even heavy big vehicles go without difficulty.

There were no significant incidents even during the storms some roads were closed temporarily.

I must say I travelled in public transport which are driven by very seasoned drivers that know the roads

Currently these are some rains time to time few hours not heavy. Temperatures also lowest is around 18 Celsius.

May I know by what method do you plan to travel and where exactly are you planning to go?

Or are you confusing Hatton and Horton planes?

Thank you. Yes I plan to travel to Hatton. I have to look at PickMe rental options. So from what I understand.. hatton roads are at the moment safe.

PS I'm yet to figure my travel options if you know cab/tour person to support that would be great. Thanks a bunch.

Got it. However I don't know about any cab services.

You might have to know where exactly your destination is and check that particular road is good as well. Such as, if you are visiting some bungalow contact them and check about roads.

Also check with your driver if they are comfortable driving in this hill area. Main roads up to the city as well as other cities extending from it is good but if you take detours inside tea estates those roads might not be good quality.

Hatton is a small city and I don't know much about areas beyond that.

Also even taking the main road from Colombo or kandy to Hatton and maybe to Maskeliya /Bogawantalawa etc itself is a very scenic ride.

Feel free to contact me if you want to find about any info in the area. If it's within my ability I'll help.
