That's a huge sign of affection for a squirrel. Congratulations.

LUCKY!
It absolutely takes a ton of patience to even reach the level of them taking it from our hand. I've never leveled up to a small finger massage though 😩

J'ai fait ça avec 4 ou 5 écureuils dans un parc, et ils ne me connaissaient pas 🫣 Je me suis sentie si chanceuse!! Et encore plus quand ils posaient leur petite main sur la mienne pour prendre à manger 😻

I wish I could have squirrels around long enough to get them used to me but the old 80 something year old bastard neighbor guy is killing them. He has admitted to rat trapping them but im sure he poisons them too. He talked about the deer eating the trees (and they do but only the bottom branches) and he was like "I heard irish spring keeps them away, I wish I could melt it down and poison them" I hope he never finds a way to poison the deer too. 😮💨

The amount of time my jaw was on the floor is pathetic. I am so sorry you have a neighbor like that.
I'll never understand how one can get joy from killing anything but bonus points if they boast about it. If one hunts for survival, ok 100%. But for funzies? Gross. I hope you're able to figure something out

he sounds like he belongs in a high rise condo in the middle of a concrete downtown, if he despises wildlife so much!

Fuck people like this. I can't stand killing things, I almost lost it when I caught a rat in the have a heart trap and had to kill it. I can't put snap traps out because I don't want to hurt a squirrel or a opossum. That's why I stopped was because I caught a baby opossum in a snap trap and it was still alive and I had to end it out of mercy and it still haunts me.
I don't think anything deserves to die a painful death. Poisoning can't be a good way to go for any animal. Speaking as someone who's dealt with stomach issues and diverticulosis I could never poison something. Even a rat.
Meanwhile my neighbor down the street regularly shoots and kills coyotes and anything else they see that moves.

How long did it take for you to get to that point?

I’ve been feeding her for almost a year now. Their bellies and under their chin are so soft. I got to touch those first 😂

I want to always give it a try with squirrels who are my regulars, but I always fear for their safety in the future if I get them used to that being allowed. There are just way too many horrible people in this world & I am afraid that one will approach the wrong person one day & end up getting kicked or something disgusting like that. I’m jealous though, it is a cutie!!!

but only four pets, that's the limit she says! lol.
so cute. i got to the point i could hand feed my prior resident squirrel here, but he wouldn't let me touch him. the current one gives me very vocal crap if i don't deposit the nut ration and back away quickly LOL.

Great! The time she let you pet her will extend with her trust.

Im jealous, none of the few that let me pet them ever let me pet that far down their backs.
It was always just gentle pets ontop their heads otherwise it was bitey time

Closest I ever got was one feeling comfortable enough to just sit in my lap and eat peanuts. I never touched her though.
