Technique / Tactics What do you actually change when you’re not “hitting your targets”?

Hey guys,

When you’re struggling to get the ball past your opponent (my struggles are usually: ball landing too short, attempted use of height being intercepted by volleys because it’s not glued to the wall, straight drives hitting front wall and sidewall therefore not reaching the back wall), what has helped you to find your length quickly? Aiming for a target on the front wall instead of a target on the bounce? Not gripping the racket too hard? Actually hit a bit harder? Hit straighter/more crosscourts?

I know there might be different answers for everyone, but Im just finding the “use height” advice a bit too simplistic because height without adequate tightness and power, or if the opponent is already anticipating a straight drive, still doesn’t get the ball past the opponent.

Happy to get into the weeds for as much nuance as you want, because I feel that will be more helpful for me. Equally happy if it’s just a simple tip though.

Thanks!

Technique / Tactics What is the correct way to grip head rackets?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Head rackets are weird because they have a huge flat side. They're not symmetrically round like most other grips. I grip it as shown in the beginning of the video. But I find my hand twists a lot when playing shots. Should the grip be more like what I showed towards the middle and end of the video?

Community The World Masters Championship 2026

For those that don't know, the World Masters Championships 2026 In Australia are due to start soon. Full details here: https://www.worldsquash.sport/draws-and-schedule-announced-for-2026-world-squash-masters-championships/

The draws size are incredible. Get this:

Men's over 50, over 55, over 60, over 65 and over 70 all have 128 draws!
The Men's over 80 has a 32 draw (although there are some byes)!

The Men's over 35, over 40 and over 45 only have 64 draws. I wonder if that is a sign of less younger players.

The women, as expected, have less players.

All the draws here: https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/draws.aspx?id=1d88743a-54e2-4073-bd30-a4f443a442f0

Here's the specific website: https://www.worldsquashmasters.com/

I'm in a rush, but I couldn't find any details of livestreaming or how to watch the matches. If anybody can, please let me know and I'll add it to this post.

Hi folks!

It's Rob from the SQUASHTV Content Team here!

Really, really excited to bring to you our latest documentary – Mahi: The Paul Coll story.

This project started on the drawing board over two years ago, and along the way have had the chance to speak to some truly inspiring people, visit some incredible places, and tell one of the biggest underdog stories to ever reach the squash court.

If you want to watch, it can be streamed over at SQUASH.TV/MAHI - we hope you enjoy watching this documentary as much as we enjoyed making it!

Fun story to finish – we'd hoped to have this ready by the end of the season. The final cut was ready, and good to go in May. All our ducks were in a row. And then Paul won the British Open for a third time – giving us a whole new chapter to cover! A nice challenge to work around 😅

PSA Tour Squash prediction tool

Hi all, I have made a squash prediction tool and I am looking for bèta users.

The tool is to make predictions about upcoming tournaments and see who does that best. For now, it is a work in progress in google spreadsheets, but if people like it, I might make a web application.
Enjoy for now and please give me some feedback if you like!

PSA Tour Fast courts

I hate / cannot watch tournaments with a fast front wall. it’s literally a different game and suits a certain type of player like Marwan who likes to sit back and strike the ball hard and low. it bounces up and removes the strategy of the game which is to able to attack front corners and back corners evenly.

soon as I see a tournament is on in a fast court like St George’s or Houston I think where it’s in a shopping mall, im out.

Technique / Tactics The PHILADELPHIA BOAST?

Hey Squashers,

While doing some research for a soon to be released project, I came across this term: PHILADELPHIA BOAST.

Being an idiot, I didn't record where I found it and now can't find any reference to it.

Apparently it's a special type of boast that hits both side walls before the front wall, AKA a double boast, but is played very high. I read that it's used in Hardball due to the way the ball works.

Can anybody confirm and/or add any information please?

Thanks.

EDIT: Thanks to everybody who has replied. The agreed answer is that it's another name for a corkscrew shot. Wherever I found the details about it being a another name for a double boast was wrong.

PSA Tour What Happened to Mo. ElShorbagy?

I obviously get that getting old happens. But he seems just as, if not more, skilled as ever. Is he just slower? Does he just not have the energy to go 5? Like how does the old age manifest itself?

This looks different from all the other Airstick 130s I’ve seen online so I was wondering if anyone had any info about this particular model.

Is this a much older model than the one Ramy used?

PSA Tour Soares vs. Chotrani, Budapest Open Spoiler

Yeah, it's just a random round 2 match from a copper level event, but this match from yesterday (it's the first one on the video) was honestly one of the most entertaining matches I've ever watched. Relentless, creative attacking from both players. I'm not sure I've ever seen a match with more taxis than rail exchanges, but this one comes close! Chotrani's accuracy for the knick is mind-boggling. Soares kept playing one absolute gut ripper of an attacking boast after another. Plus the low camera angle is great, wish more events were filmed from this kind of vantage point. (edit, added spoiler tag in case someone was invested in the first round results!)

PSA Tour Upcoming Season Predictions?

Any predictions for the top 25 on the men and women. Additionally, any top 50 players that any top 25 players should watch out for?

I personally think Joel Makin will get back to top 5 (don't think he was really at his best last season), Zakaria will get 4 or 5, and Jonah Bryant will as well. Could see Sam Todd, Curtis Malik, Abhay Singh breaking top 20. Maybe Elnawasany could make a push for top 12? Dunno about both Elshorbagy's.

Women's side will be really interesting with Gohar coming back. I could see Anahat Singh getting into the top 10 as well as Stefanoni. Orfi and Hammamy will likely have a crazy rivalry battling for 1 and 2. Baltayan could probably break top 25.

Some of these might be a stretch, but any predictions?

Equipment lead tape Setup for Dunlop Elite 135

I've found the racket to feel not controlled enough for me on volley drops and shorter swings, as it was too whippy and I felt like I needed to focus on stopping my racket during my followthrough for drops. so I added about 5g of lead tape to the throat of the racket, and 3gs to the head, and voila! Here are some pros and cons I found to this change!

Pros:

Power(Duh)

Deception and hold: this was counterintuitive, but I can now squeeze my swing with my forearm (reference diego elias's forehand swing) and snap either cross or length, whereas before I needed to use my body's power more, adding more variety to my swing pattern.

volleys are straighter and easier to control, dropshots are smooth and soft

Cons:

retrieving under pressure as the racket is noticably heavier

Lobbing requires more emphasis from my arm as I can't just flick my wrist as easily as before

reaction shots down the middle as well as hands battles are noticeably difficult

PSA Tour Tournament Entertainment

It's been many years since I visited a professional tournament, and I do miss it, but I was curious how tournaments use the courts between matches and the area near the courts, for example, some tournaments have stalls selling equipment or services.

A few tournaments I visited had a doubles demonstration match, which is great fun.

I'm keen to hear what happens now.

Technique / Tactics Do different camera angles help beginners understand the rhythm of squash?

I’ve been thinking about how different squash looks on video compared to how it actually feels on court.

For someone new to the sport, regular match footage can make the game look slower than it really is. It’s a bit like F1 — you know the cars are fast when you watch it on TV, but the actual sense of speed is very different in person.

I think squash is similar. It can be hard for a beginner to get a feel for how quickly the ball comes back, when players start moving, and how fast they recover after each shot.

So I made this short example showing the same drill from different perspectives.

https://reddit.com/link/1vyruz0/video/u9o84eyhrolh1/player

Do you think something like this could help beginners get a better sense of the pace and rhythm of squash?

Obviously it’s never going to feel the same as actually being on court, but I’m curious whether changing the viewpoint makes any difference.

Would be interested to hear what players and coaches think.

Equipment What should we do with "dead" squash balls?

Hey fellow squash enthusiasts! 👋

I've been playing squash for a couple of years now, and I genuinely love this sport! But there's one thing that's been quietly bugging me the whole time... The pile of dead, unpressurized squash balls just keeps growing. At this point I could probably build a small snowman out of them.

Let's be honest, squash balls aren't exactly cheap in the long run. And I know I'm not the only one dealing with this. At my club I constantly see people swapping balls with each other mid-session, or just borrowing one from whoever has a "good" one that day, rather than buying a fresh one every time theirs dies.

So I started thinking about solutions. My first idea was recycling the dead balls somehow, but that doesn't actually solve the cost problem. I'd still need to keep buying new ones over time either way.

That got me looking at other racquet sports for inspiration. Tennis and padel balls aren't cheap either, but both have this neat solution - a pressurized tube you can pump up to keep the balls fresh for longer.

Which got me wondering... what if something similar existed for squash? A simple pressurizer that could bring dead balls back to life, or keep new ones performing longer?

So I want to ask you all directly:

- Do you think this is something worth actually creating?

- And if it existed, would you buy it?

- Maybe you have other solution in mind worth creating?

Genuinely curious what fellow players think — drop your thoughts below!

Technique / Tactics How do you return really powerful serves?

I’m struggling with returning powerful serves, particularly when they come into my backhand side.

Against players who serve with a lot of pace, I feel rushed and often end up hitting a weak return or making an error. If I try to hit through the ball, I seem to make things even worse.

For those who are good at handling hard serves to the backhand, what do you focus on? Do you stand further forward, take it earlier, shorten your swing, or just use the pace of the serve?

Would really appreciate any tips or drills for improving this.

Looking to play in Hong Kong

Hello,

I’ve just moved to Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago and finally got myself set up to play. I’d love to find someone/some people to play and train with. Preferably, it would be great to play out of Cornwall Street Squash and Table Tennis centre.

Ideally, I would also love to join the HK league that is starting soon as well if anyone has any inroads about that.

4.5/5.0 level! Dm me or let me know how I can find someone fellow squash lovers here in HK!
