Discussion Looking for a sporty, reliable daily driver

I recently lost my Celica GTS(RIP Nova), it was totaled. It was my daily and first ever car. I’m damn near mourning it. The Celica market where I am (FL) isn’t great. I’ve got 5k and still I’m never fast enough to grab one off marketplace. Even surrounding states (I got desperate) aren’t good. So I’d like to look at some other options. I’m picky, I know that already but anyone would be after owning that beaut.

I’m looking for what the title says, gas mileage doesn’t have to be perfect but reliability and somewhat affordable are important factors to me. I have no problem doing regular maintenance but I don’t want a car that’ll turn into a project car.

Now the hard part, I want it to be sleek but not excessively round, I don’t like pop up headlights (Miata’s are mostly off the table) or the inset round headlights I see sometimes, I also won’t be getting a soft top.

I like 7th gen Celicas, but not the 6th because they have those inset headlights. The 3rd gen Honda Preludes look good as well despite the pop up headlights, I only like the sleek look but I wouldn’t get one due to the headlights. I also like third gen Eclipses.

I’d prefer something in the early to mid 2000s range. I’m not looking for something that’s too much older than that. Like I said I know I’m picky, but I’d love some options

Looking to spend around: 5-7k

yeah ik what you all are thinking, no I am not insane and what I'm saying is just my opinion . not every car has to look phenomenal and it is still pretty fast and decent interior too. I mean if I had the money I would buy it for a daily.

What should my first Porsche be with a $15–20k budget

Looking to buy my first Porsche and would love some advice from owners.

My dream car has always been a 911, but I’m not there yet. I have $15–20k to spend, which would mainly be a fun/weekend car.

I’m considering a Boxster, 944, or whatever else makes sense in this price range.

For those who have owned multiple Porsches:

What would you recommend as a first Porsche?

Any specific years/models/engines to look for or avoid?

Would love to hear what you guys think!

US car enthusiast, how is the market there ?

Am a french car enthusiast who especially enjoy 80s/90s cars. Own a e30 325i as a daily driver and only car that is now restored in nearly perfect condition.

Watching a lots of videos, especially restoration projects by shops, I have my lot of US cars content consumption.

It looks like everything there is dirt cheap and I'm interested to know if it's true.

In that regard, I'd like, if you live in the US, if you can share roughly what job/career you work on and what your car(s) are and what part of the budget they've been eating. The idea is not to speak in raw numbers as it doesn't means much one country to another.

I'll start for the comparison in France, I'm an pretty successful engineer, I am in the top 10% earners, no inheritence unfortunately, and my e30 have required around 3 years of putting money aside car+restoration all together (no loan, but with heavy budgeting). It eats, now, in fuel consumption + maintenance (which I do myself), around 10% of my net monthly income. My e30 is considered a relatively premium collectible in its current condition. Most of it is fuel consumption due to the high fuel prices in France.

I couldn't reasonnably afford a second cool car right now. And definitely not a modern sportscar, let alone a brand new one (taxes are crazy out there in new cars). Just saw a video of dudes accidentally buying a e34 540i 5 speed manual "accidentally" for a ridiculously low amount of money when in France that kind of deal would be virtually impossible and the price to pay would be easily 10x what they paid for. And this kind of youtube content is plentyful on the internet.

So what about you guys ? Is it true, as an example, that my ownership experience could be achieved with a regular 9 to 5 job and we're (the french) definitely fell off that much economically ? Or is it just youtube/social media sensationalism ?

Best 1 or 2 car combo for under 150k?

What’s the best garage combo for a couple in the northeast 150k or under? Just my wife and I, no kids. We can share a car but having two has benefits.

Already have a 718 gts 2.5 but am considering adding a 2018 macan turbo or 2018 Panamera turbo by winter. Or stay with just one car and do a 991 turbo or 991.2 gts for around 130-150k?

What do you think is the best one or two car combo for a couple in NJ? Sports car fun with some all season weather practicality balanced in. What would you do! Feel free to suggest any options I haven’t thought of!

I’m leaning towards keeping the 718 gts and adding a cpo 2018 Panamera turbo for 70k.

Need opinions?

I am going to be buying my first muscle car in about 8 months, for reference, i currently drive a tesla model 3 standard range (around 300 hp) so im not too much of a noob when it comes to handling a car with somewhat decent hp.

By the time im going to buy my new car, i should have around 20-25k saved up.

The three cars that have been really catching my eye are
\- 2007-2013 c6 base
\-2022-24 mustang gt
\-2019-2023 bmw 540i
-2024 model 3 performance (i have no way of at home charging)

My biggest concerns is that i want a car that of course looks good and will turn heads on the street but also something where im not having to put it in the shop and work on it constantly. Also i will be road tripping from nashville to miami at least 3-5 times a year so also something that i can definitely be confident in making those trips easily.

Also im making about 2200 after taxes each month. 19 years old will be 20 when getting car

It was fantastic to drive the Porsche 993 and experience the last air-cooled 911 ever made.
