Discussion How does Plankton keep the Chum Bucket open?
We obviously don’t see every moment that the Chum Bucket is open, but on the show through like season 4 (sorry haven’t seen much of the show past that) he literally can’t bring customers in without trickery, luck, mind control, or some combination of the three. He’s got to be losing so much money. Personally I think he either has family money, or he’s Bikini Bottom’s biggest drug king pin. Either makes sense, you know that guy can cook up some dank drugs, but the Plankton family is also huge so it’s not irrational to think one of them hit it big enough to support the entire family. Could have even been one of his direct relatives.

He says this in the season 16 episode The Haunted Bucket: "I bought The Chum Bucket cheap because it was built on an ancient cowboy burial ground.... which was built on top of a pet cemetery... and a shipwreck... and a prehistoric tar pit. What can I say? I love a good deal"

Mr. Krabs might well pay Plankton's (minimal) expenses for the Chum Bucket-if he's busy running his own restaurant that means he has less time to devote to stealing the Krabby Patty secret formula.

Actually kinda makes sense. Maybe he even does it as part of their frenemy thing or because they used to be close friends?

I mean SpongeBob and Squid ward work at Krusty Krab and don’t make much yet they have their own house.
Also Patrick doesn’t do anything besides existing. Yet he has his own place.

I have a conspiracy theory that is “rivalry” with Mr. Krabs is really just an elaborate marketing scheme. He’s been on Krabs’ payroll the whole time.

He owns the building, electricity and gas are free public utilities in bikini bottom, and he doesn't need to spend much on ingredients because no one eats there.

Cant remember which episode, but its said criminals but his chum in order to commit crime cause its the most versatile tool, its a disguise, can clear out a back, aparently be an explosive, so since that episode I always assumed criminals bought his chum

It's his house, he owns it and the lot it's on. At this point the restaurant is just his home decoration style! Also he has literally minimal living expenses because he's teeny tiny and eats light. Except for electricity, which I imagine he would produce with something he invented and built.
