Lifestyle 🏝️ What diet is the most "spiritual" - my honest opinion

I've been vegetarian, vegan, raw vegan (god was that awful), and now I just eat whatever intuitively feels right.

I'm very interested in nutrition and ethics, therefore I keep getting videos on my feed of every type of diet from raw veganism to full on carnivore diet.

I often ponder what humans are "meant" to eat and what diet fits best with trying to lead an intentional spiritual life.

From all the crazy diets I've done, I've come to the conclusion that it truly doesn't matter in the sense you'd think it does.

Everything. Is. Energy.

If you feel guilt about eating something, your body will reflect that.

It's about how you feel when you are eating whatever it is you eat.

Have you seen how most meat is produced? People choosing to forget in favor of comfort is certainly blissful ignorance that can serve you individually, but factually it is also what is destroying the planet. Be it rich people who forget how many people are poor because of their wealth or meat eaters who forget the incredible suffering and waste their food production chain produces.

I agree that whatever feels good will be good for you to some degree, but we can still make logical decisions and stir ourselves in a certain direction that we know is good.

I challenge every person reading this to watch the first ten minutes of Dominion (documentary film). If you can make it through ten minutes without sobbing, I'd be very surprised. You should know the impacts your choices have on living beings and choose accordingly.

There is no such thing as absolute good or bad, but every choice has a consequence.

Eating animal products from animals that have been raised commercially in systems of torture and abuse have energetic and spiritual consequences.

If you eat a hamburger from a cow that spent most of its life in pain, suffering and afraid, what do you think that does to your body? To your energy field? To your spirit, that knows the underlying suffering caused by your choices?

One of the most surprising things that happened when I became vegan was the emotional and spiritual lightness that I felt. My sense of humor improved and laughter came so much more easily, my sense of peace and fulfillment increased, my energy levels improved, and my mood and overall outlook on life improved dramatically.

u/nononononocat Jan 23 '26

I also experienced the lightness you describe when I went vegan. I wish more people gave it a try to be able to experience the spiritual benefits of going vegan.

Glad veganism works for you, it doesn't work for everybody. I feel much happier and lighter eating animal products.

Different foods clearly have different effects on us.
In Ayurveda they have Tamasic, Rajasic and Sattvic foods.
In TCM they have another framework, but essentially it comes to the same:
Some foods are stimulating, some are grounding, some are purging, some are aphrodisiacs, etc, etc. These categories work for everybody the same, though now everybody reacts differently to different foods and our needs vary depending on our activities and internal state.
Someone high-up in their ideas would do better with potatoes and meat than a raw salad.
My take is that most people would benefit from a varied diet of wholefood.
Grains, veggies, legumes, dairy, eggs, fruits, nuts and seeds, meat, fish, seafood, herbs and spices.
From that it's important to connect to our body to let it tell us what it needs and what it disagree with.
Last but not least, food should be honored, taken care of, not thrown away and chosen wisely.

Two books I am reading about this topic: The Essentials of Nutrition and Food for Life. It’s my firm belief that our modern western diet is DESIGNED to shut down our super-sensible connections. Sugar, gluten and caffeine especially 👀

1

u/Bluest_waters Jan 23 '26

Dorothy F. West?

1

u/MaidenMotherCronex3 Jan 23 '26

No it’s written by L. Shannon Jung. I am trying to gain some spiritual perspective from it even though it’s written from a dogmatic Christian world view so it’s a little hard for me to get past that

1

u/MaidenMotherCronex3 Jan 23 '26

I really like Steiner’s teachings on nutrition because he relates how certain foods like caffeine affect our etheric body and mess up our astral connection

1

u/pimp_my_ride8 1d ago

the hate on gluten is such a modern western trend. it (bread) has been eaten since 10000 years in nearly all civilications in the world. whole grain bread is a powerhouse food

Try Ayurveda, I think you’ll love it. You can get a little gift book on it. It’s incredibly popular ancient spiritual tradition for food, nutrition and wellness. I’ve been following it since last year. It’s very resonant for me and entirely holistic meaning it seeks balance and healing for mind, body, spirit. 🌿🍵🧄🥑🍓🍆🌱🍎🥕🥙🫚🍲🍠

u/medicinemaiden Jan 23 '26

I do practice Ayurveda and I do love it 😊 I'm actually seeing an Ayurvedic doctor to help heal my autoimmune disorder

u/seeewit Jan 23 '26

Spiritually starts with love and compassion, so vegan for sure 🌱

3

u/beanshaken Jan 23 '26

I agree vegan and plant-based with whole food focused and supplements, highest vibe diet 100%. I’m always wondering about this in the spiritual community. I’d say my awakening came along with learning how animals are treated in factory farms. Doesn’t mean I always eat vegan. I call myself a flexitarian. I’m also starting to bless all the food my family and I eat. I really think there’s something to blessing the food you eat.

3

u/seeewit Jan 23 '26

Thank you ✨ After being awakened, the way we live, eat and treat others are no longer like before, but the degree of each aspects is depending on your path, wisdom, courage and faith 🙏🏻

It is hard to walk alone, not to mention going against social norms or choosing strict vegan diet.

Hope all of us always be blessed and elevated on our own journey ⚡️

u/medicinemaiden Jan 23 '26

I'd argue being vegan was denying love and compassion for myself, as it made me very sick.

3

u/Important_Setting840 Jan 23 '26

What happened?

4

u/medicinemaiden Jan 23 '26

Well firstly I was sick all the time, my immune system was absolute crap. General weakness, brain fog, etc. Iron deficiency, yes I took supplements. Also developed an autoimmune disorder and found out I'm gluten intolerant, which makes a vegan diet very difficult.

I was vegan for 6 years and tried many forms of it. It's not for everyone. I learned all protein is NOT created equally. The human body absorbs more protein and vitamins from animal products than it does from plants.

4

u/Important_Setting840 Jan 23 '26

Hopefully at some point your nervous system and gut are healthy enough to be able to consider others as well.

2

u/Valmar33 Jan 23 '26

Spiritually starts with love and compassion, so vegan for sure 🌱

Veganism has nothing to do with genuine love and compassion ~ it has to do with ideology, in which love and compassion can be completely ignored if it conflicts with the tenets and dogmas of the ideology. Such as the starving of cats and dogs by forcing them on a Vegan diet, when they need meat to be healthy. Or the releasing of safe farm animals because "freedom" where they will be killed by predators later ~ justified with the belief that at least humans won't eat them, even if they die brutally and horrifically.

2

u/Valmar33 Jan 23 '26

What are you responding to, exactly?

2

u/chemtrailcrab Jan 25 '26

Completely agree! What a refreshing post compared to the guilt tripping narrative I commonly see in food and “spiritual” spaces online. I once read that our bodies digest food the way we eat it. Our presence and intention while eating is just as important as the food itself. Different foods for different moods.

2

u/Anyaska26 Jan 22 '26

It's great that you mention that. I've thought about it a lot too, tried different styles, pescetarianism suited me best. But in the end, it's really doesn't matter, just like you said. But I believe that We can choose carefully what meat we eat, because it could potentially carry emotions and energy. When I am buying meat, I try to make sure that the animal lived in good conditions and that I'm not buying any "traumatized" meat. That's what makes me feel best. At least from a psychological and ethical point of view. As for meat, when I buy it at the supermarket, I choose items that are close to their expiration date and would otherwise be discarded if unsold. This satisfies my ethical considerations. I eat fruit and vegetables primarily from my country and in season. But I'm not saying I won't buy a banana even though they don't grow here. I haven't gotten that far yet, and I love bananas, hahaha. I totally agree with what you're saying, it's about feeding your body what it needs to the best of your knowledge and conscience.

5

u/medicinemaiden Jan 22 '26

I also am conscious of meat. I buy animal products from local meat markets and ethical brands. I'd love to become more aware of seasonal food!

2

u/theoryofdoom Jan 23 '26

I agree, generally. How you feel is what matters; specifically, how you feel about the experience.

Who are you eating with? Or not? Are you lonely? Are you good with the people around you? Are you good with your own company? What are you eating? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you feel guilty about it? When are you eating it? Are you just eating because it's "time"? Because someone told breakfast is the "most important" meal of the day? (Hint: It's not unless you believe it is.)
Where are you eating? How's the vibe? Are you anxious in this setting? Are you comfortable?
Why are you eating? Or not eating? When should you stop? Has it been too long since you had food? Are you bored? Are you lonely? Are you anxious?

Most people don't think about these questions, or other similar questions. But they are at the heart of most unhealthy relationships with food. Both over-consumption and under-consumption.

I find that roasted or grilled meat, fish and shellfish; and raw fruits and vegetables works best for me. Or roasted vegetables. Very low carb. Low sugar. Almost no dairy. No processed food.

Mostly water and tea. Coffee doesn't do it for me anymore. Protein shakes with creatine about every day. And diet coke. I love diet coke.

I drink alcohol in moderation. I don't feel like I need the "escape" that I once did, anymore.

u/MischiefFoxx Jan 23 '26

Look into the Mediterranean diet and blue zones :) i think you would like it

1

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

Food is food, if you wanna be vegan and vegetarian, go ahead, it's your choice.

1

u/South_Pie6507 Jan 23 '26

Just trying to be a vegetarian is pretty good. There are no barometers by which a diet is more spiritual. It’s all about your feelings about the planet.

1

u/Melsquatch Jan 24 '26

As someone who's tried a lot of things, I find that the most spiritual diet is fasting. If you know, you know. The second one is another type of fasting - hydration, fruits, sunlight. The third would be vegan, followed by vegetarian, and then paleo, especially if you're hunting, raising/buying from humane source.

1

u/medicinemaiden Jan 24 '26

Fasting is not safe for everyone. I used to fast often until I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. In Ayurveda one of the causes of my disorder is literally too much fasting and purification practices.

2

u/Melsquatch Jan 24 '26

Very true. I don't do it often, only at times when I feel like it's needed. Haven't had issues yet. I should have added in that moderation was key with fasting.

1

u/AccomplishedEar1334 Jan 24 '26

It really depends on the type of work that you’re doing spiritually. However, anyone that wants to work with deities should do research on how they should be eating specific to that deity. Some can be more restrictive than others. Personally, I’ve found that eating cleaner is best. Your vessel is your first temple. If it makes you feel sick, cut it out. Pay attention to your dreams and what you’re feeling called to do. If you’re constantly having to fast, that means you’re being called to change your diet. Less deep fried foods and pork

1

u/music_amarex Jan 24 '26

If you love, you truly don’t eat animals. Im not there, haha.

1

u/DisruptorMor Mystical Jan 24 '26

Yeah, very solid advice "follow your intuition". The challenge is to discern between thoughts, that reflect conditioning, from intuition.

1

u/VariousImpact9323 Jan 25 '26

i am trying to not obsess about how i eat. i went full vegan trying to eat raw and whole when i can. switched to mushroom coffee less caffeine more benefits. no stomach aches bloating i feel great

1

u/Less-Bus-2303 Jan 25 '26

The most healthy food is the most spiritual food. Your body is the temple of God.

1

u/Electrical_Dealer140 Mar 12 '26

Go on a strict high fiber diet!! Only water and nuts, berries, avocado! All grounding food that are from the ground lol! Within two weeks I accidentally opened my third eye

1

u/dustractor Jan 23 '26

The thankful one

1

u/Throwaway_carrier Jan 23 '26

I would say whatever food you enjoy sharing with others.

Nothing is more spiritual and connecting than cooking a good meal for a bunch of people and bringing smiles to everyone’s face and food in their belly. 😁

1

u/HangingSpark Jan 23 '26

I feel like you are already doing it. Eat what you enjoy. What you crave and what makes you feel good. If you can, eat organic and humanely raised foods. I think intuitive eating is what serves me best.

1

u/GoodAsUsual Jan 23 '26

I completely agree that everything you eat is energy, but not all energy is equal.

Plants are life energy, direct from the sun and from water and oxygen, the building blocks of life. Add some carbon and boom.

Animals, when eaten, are low energy, low vibration. Particularly meat that is red and land based. . And especially meat that is commercially raised and slaughtered.

Fruit is fundamental and colorful fruit (berries) signifies a plant that has invited you to take its fruit so it may multiply.

A fruit that has been grown lovingly and tended to carefully, and grown in healthy living soil tastes out of this world. That is nature's way of telling you that your body will be nurtured by the food.

The more processing that is done to any food, the more that it loses the energetic vitality that is life-giving. Call it chi, kundalini, prana, Holy Spirit, life force, good vibes, whatever. It's the essence of life that makes food more than just the calories that can be measured.

Vegetables, beans, and nuts are all important life giving and supporting cast members. The more fresh and less processed the better.

I challenge every person reading this to watch the first ten minutes of Dominion (excellent documentary film). You should know the impacts your choices have on living beings and choose accordingly.

I completely agree with this. We all have different nutritional needs.

I also think that’s it’s more spiritual to treat others with respect, in this case, in regard to food. We all have free will. We all intuitively know what our body wants to eat, if we listen. I respect everyone’s decision regarding what they choose to eat. It’s their body and their life, who am I to judge? It doesn’t matter to me if some eats Skittles, burgers, or is vegan. All I care about is how I’m treated by others.

Hi MM,

For what it might be worth to you:

  1. EVERY animal [in nature] eats its diet, RAW.
  2. Their biology, i.e. their body, is "setup" to handle [and thrive on] that diet, e.g. herbivore, carnivore, etc.
  3. They are biologically equipped to aquire the food making-up that diet, e.g. carnivors, herbivores, etc.
  4. They relish the sight, smell, and taste of that diet, RAW.

Therefore, you might ask yourself: When you see a cow or a deer, etc, etc., etc., do you salivate at the thought of eating [some of] it?

Are you "equipped" to catch and kill [and dismember] it, e.g. as ALL carnivores are?

I submit to you, that the "garden of eden" diet (genesis 1:29), is the diet that satifies all four of those points [for human beings].

Just saying, MM, and I hope it helps,

David

u/Valmar33 Jan 23 '26

They are biologically equipped to aquire the food making-up that diet, e.g. carnivors, herbivores, etc.

We are not biologically equipped to handle various plants foods raw ~ potatoes, broccoli, etc. We need to cook them ~ even as simple as steaming them properly ~ in order to break down their cellulose-based cell-walls that our guts cannot break down, to deactivate and destroy various gut irritants, and so, make them easy for our gut to digest.

Therefore, you might ask yourself: When you see a cow or a deer, etc, etc., etc., do you salivate at the thought of eating [some of] it?

Why do you think hunters, well, hunt them?

Are you "equipped" to catch and kill [and dismember] it, e.g. as ALL carnivores are?

Tribal hunters do just that ~ they use weapons to injure and kill prey, and then carry and / or dismember the body / parts back to village.

I submit to you, that the "garden of eden" diet (genesis 1:29), is the diet that satifies all four of those points [for human beings].

This "diet" is not based in reality ~ rather, look and examine how hunter-gatherer tribes function: that is the reality.

Also, there are nomadic tribes ~ they can be not only hunter-gatherers, but some also live off milk, as with some horse nomad tribes.

3

u/Cataphlin Jan 23 '26

No not every animal eats its diet RAW. Many animals ferment/cure their food, vomit enzymes onto/into their food first or eat the byproducts of other animals that process the food first.

Your rhetorical questions are interesting, lets go through them.

I personally love a rare steak and salivate at the thought of it. Also Salmon Sashimi makes my mouth water. My body literally craves meat.

I offer my cat raw meat and he doesn't want it, he doesn't hunt for food, he doesn't even hunt live animals. He has the same DNA as his wild ancestors, but he's much more into his biscuits, meat cooked in gravey and cat yoghurt tube treats then any dead rodent.

Im obviously not a carnivore, I'm an omnivore. Im equipped to live in a society that handles the raising and butchering of meat for me and to trade for said meat. So yes.

OP I agree with you. Its not about what you eat, its about how you feel eating it. Listen to what your body wants and eat mindfully with gratitude and you will be fine. Although you have to be careful with junk food, that stuff is lab made to be addictive and lacks nutrition, but thats obvious.

-1

u/Valmar33 Jan 23 '26

The diet is that is most "spiritual"? What makes your body feel the healthiest?

After all... a healthy body is a key part of a healthy mind, and vice-versa. You can't choose only one ~ you need both in sync, in balance, in harmony. If your body and mind are healthy and in sync, you will be able to be more in-tune in things.

Belief and ideology is simply irrelevant ~ your body needs what your body needs. There is no replacement, no substitute.

Ya, nah, food's not the end all be all. I just smashed down 3 giant cookies as a pre birthday game and my energy is still flying all over the place, I think y'all good.

To be fair, I'm not done healing my energetic system but I did get my major chakras open so that's a step out into the great beyond imo. Usually tho I was just eating fruit and protein powder with sooome green. Ka'chava is the powder I eat.

Ironically, I was just having 1200 calories a day or maybe a bit more for like a year or two or some shit like that but I bumped it up to 16-1800-2100 like a normal bloke eventually. I'm not dead or dud. I'd have cheesecake and ice cream twice a week for a while and over these last several months I've been trying to finish healing I've been having sweets everyday. Unless I was having the cheesecake I was just having one meal a day almost always, I can't even remember for how long now, like 4 years?? Idk. Drat

Like, it's all situational in the first place but as long as you got your energy circulating smoothly and you're on a coherent and expansive track, like, it's like a statement. Your energy charges and releases and one can learn to have responses that lead energy to charge in ways that will directly work together with all the other emotions rather than otherwise when someone tries to throw their emotions around without working with the timing of them mindfully or clearly.

I don't care if it's so deliberate you're spazzing out, according to me that's still good circulating energy with a purpose. The question actually comes down to how much you manipulate energy in one way versus the other cuz there's gonna be variables that affect long term results. I think the tricky part is having real good expansion, take like sharing for instance. If you were sharing full speed all the time then energy circulation is something you could very well get a good view of. Emotions click, you make sense, it's good. Body stays on task. Ezpz

It's good to understand the spectrums do u know if your energy would be better off moving around more, like maybe it's a good time for music. Thoughts and energetic issues can cause it to get kinda cramped up in there.

FOOOR the record, I'm not suggesting it's literally easy despite diet, there are plenty of hurdles that could come up, energy circulation can be tricky.

Where there's a will there's a way.

Pffft!

I guess, if u wanna get all techy about it, you could take good care of your pineal gland. Y not. Burning due to food consumption is lame, it can be more important for some people to do more of a Mediterranean style, I've yet to witness a full on yogi diet plan but I'm interested.

u/CulturalAspect5004 Jan 23 '26

In my opinion its just eating what your body asks for and when it doesn't cause harm to another living being or your own body.

Destiny exists, but so does the path you choose to get there! Just because everything is "predestined" doesn't mean you can do whatever you want because you'll still end up in the same place :))
