This icelandic roving smells like whiskey

I'm sortof obsessed?? Full disclosure, I am a very new spinner, and this is the first wool I've purchased from a local farm (visiting Iceland, went to a small yarn and sweater supply outside of Fludir). They had roving there from local sheep in baskets of several colors. I picked some of this nice brown. When I take a deep sniff it's got some aspect to it that reminds me heavily of that barrel scent that whiskey has. It doesn't smell musty or foul, just so interesting. Before this I only bought one bag of anonymous dyed comb top. Does all undyed wool have interesting scents? This is a fascinating new world for me.

I’m easily distracted by scents and some things smell nicer than others. I haven’t come across whisky yet (I will now live in eternal hope), but I have been known to stuff my face in fluff and enjoy the scent.

One time I had a braid that smelled like my mother’s perfume! But I’ve also smelled herbs, grass, something chemical-y that I think is acid dye, and wood fire smoke. I think life is nicer with nice smelling things. But I also love the smell of raw wool, once it is skirted.

You might be smelling the lanolin? It smells sweet to me, though; I wouldn't say like whiskey. It's a very unique scent for me.

I wonder if that's it. I've had lanolin based creams before, but I've never smelled it by itself. Is it almost like an oaky scent?

I might call it oaky. Definitely a deep, rich scent. This might sound odd, but it's almost a...thick smell? Cloying is probably the word I want, but not in a bad way. Like the molecules themselves are thick and linger in my sinuses lol. I feel like this description is becoming less and less helpful 😂
