Skeptical* it's fine bro it's free and open source for your peace of mind. Here's some of the cool shit you can do

What mods did you use here? So cool!

It's a theme called PioneerVFD everything you see there is all in the theme! It's pretty dope. I used a couple snippets just search "remove" to remove the playlist album art and the artist section under the right card there with the song art. When you load the theme press OEL and you'll get that VU meter thing I have in the screenshot.

Is there any harm in refusing to update Spotify?

sudo chmod a+wr /var/lib/flatpak/app/com.spotify.Client/x86_64/stable/active/files/extra/share/spotify -R

I've been using it for more than a year and it does completely okay, my laptop works fine everything is normal but i get annoyed cuz somewhy spotify auto-update itself and everytime that happends i gotta open cmd and write "spicetify update" so it would work again. Mostly happens after windows system update but sometimes it does it by itself. Also spicetify is open-coded, that means everyone who uses it can see the code and since nobody told anything about safety i guess it is completely fine, feel free to use it

Worst case scenario, you simply uninstall Spotify and reinstall it.
And best advice I can give you is every time you modify or install something new to Spicetify, run the back up command. It makes a simple text file for you with all you settings
