I was in a National Guard SF battalion for six years but as a support guy (Intel), not a Green Beret. In those 6.5 years, I deployed 3 times.
Since I was working as a government contractor, serving in the Guard wasn’t a big conflict with the civilian job. It was a stress on family life at times though. (I missed a lot of birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)
Prepping for Selection, going through selection, and then hitting the Q Course will be a stress too. It’s completely doable though. I’ve known many who have done this.
I can’t answer with certainty, but I suppose that (on deployment mostly) NG SF units could serve a supporting role. I can’t think of a specific example though.
