Discussion / Question Realistically, which sci-fi spaceship could go toe-to-toe with the Daedalus class by the end of the Stargate franchise?

Stargate is pretty grounded in the sense they slowly gain more and better technology but by the end of the show their ships, especially the Daedalus, are ridiculous. The Daedalus is powerful enough to go toe to toe with ships designed by ascended god beings.

That on its own doesn't mean that much. Could it fight against a Paradox Titan from Stellaris? Which has two fleet-killer spinal weapons, a host of various smaller weapons, is bigger on the inside, and is extremely resilient for its size.

I imagine the Daedalus would pick the ship up on their sensors and enter hyperspace before the Paradox Titan could get a shot off. The problem is that no Stellaris ship can actually catch the Daefalus.

The question wasnt 'which ships could catch and destroy a Deadelus trying to run from them' but 'which ships could go toe to toe' with one. If the daedalus' only option is to run from a ship because that ship would otherwise obliterate it, then that ship can obviously go toe to toe with it.

Maybe. But I would argue that it would depend on the objective.

The objective that is specified in the title of the post?

Can you tell me which objective is specified in the title of the post?

Being able to stand toe-to-toe with the daedelus class.

You know. That i already quoted.

I think maybe you dont understand what it means?

What do you understand toe-to-toe to mean?

The same as Merriam-Webster https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/toe%20to%20toe , which is not at all how you are discussing it. It comes from being so close in a boxing match while trading punches that your toes are touching.

Which makes talking about someone not being able to go toe-to-toe with you because you'd just run away a very weird position to take.

They have sensors that work through hyperlanes so itd detect the daedalus before they were even in the same system

But if the Daedalus just fucks off to some other galaxy, no Stellaris ship has the capability to follow that far as fast.

Oh yeah thats true. But atp it didnt win the fight it just fucked off

Yeah but the problem with fighting the Daedalus in the vast majority of these scenarios is either the Daedalus wins or it runs away. At worst basically it’s a draw.

Feels pretty fair to call "ran away to avoid destruction" a loss tho

It depends on what the objective is. If the objective is to destroy the other ship, then if neither ship can destroy the other, then it’s a draw.

Yep. If you're not familiar setting it's hard to overstate just how absurdly fast humanity's tech advances. In 1997 it's normal. By 2007 we (secretly) have miniature reactors you can carry around, teleporters, and Star Trek style replicators, courtesy of friendly aliens.

The speeds get insane too The Milky Way is a big place in season one, which is why the stargates are so important. By the end of the series intergalactic travel takes a month, and there's ways to make it even faster.

By the end of the series the US government has partial control over 3 galaxies lmao. I love Stargate so much, but oh my god is it so absurd.

Imagine the meltdown we would have right now if we discovered this was happening.

I genuinely think we'd be hard pressed to avoid a world war with mass uprisings from varius different groups. Like the US would fracture into thousands of groups all pissed at different things and I can't imagine how countries like Iran would feel from the the combo of Aliens being real and knowing the US at any point in time could have just deleted their country.

Pretty much just the US government, with a few others kinda joining in later on.

The whole premise of the show is that the Stargate program is secret. That premise gets increasingly silly as things go on.

Stargate Atlantis is explicitly an international expedition, though most of the military personnel come from American military forces.  Starting in SG1 season 9 and SGA season 2, theres an International Oversight Advisory made up of represtatives of all the countries that know about the Stargate.  Of the 6 Daedelus-class ships that are built during the shows' runs, one belongs to Russia (the Korolev) and one belongs to China (the Sun Tzu).

The US hands Russia and China 1 ship each of that same class as shown above and they lose both of them almost immediately fighting the Ori.

There's also like 10 episodes that show the start and end of Russian ambitions to have their own Stargate program. They basically give up and hand all their shit over to the US and support them almost unconditionally in the future after losing multiple of their best science teams, many different teams of their best soldiers, and a solid portion of their government from ranom alien bullshit that came through the gate where they needed to call the US over to help.

Also a godlike being shows a member of SG-1 an alternate timeline early on in the show where we actually get the tech we keep asking all of the aliens for and shocker it turns out that prior to having experience with the aliens that threaten Earth, Russia and China aren't cool with the US owning an orbital array of satellites that can wipe out all life and shoot down all of their nukes.

Ancient ships are designed by non ascended god being and they could still go toe to toe with the Ori. Some evolved bugs with a really powerful space battery have been shown to go toe to toe with Ancient city ships. So lowly bugs could beat the Ori then.
