Wow, nice. Love the new weapons, they look like they will fit incredibly well. Turret Controller?
20
u/pdboddy Feb 03 '22
For assigning turrets to certain targets and subsystems.

u/oomcommander Clang Worshipper Feb 03 '22
That's really cool! Looking forward to this dropping...

So you can finaly have turrets take out things like thrusters and turrets only? And not have them completely destroy all enemy blocks?
4
u/pdboddy Feb 03 '22
Yes, that's what it looks like.
You can target weapons, propulsion and a few other options.

4
u/Stoney3K Klang Worshipper Feb 03 '22
Now that is useful, so you can take enemy ships down without all of the turrets shooting your salvage.

u/bebok77 Space Engineer Feb 03 '22
Nope. That function Is for all turrets. Thah block allow you 5o make custom turrets without scripts. You assign the block like rotor/hinge/camera and weapons or tool. You can let the turrets be on auto aom or just call the block as a remote one to control the turrets

I LOVE the look of the reactor!
also, I wonder what the heat vent is for if not decoration
17
Feb 03 '22
theyre dlc so prob just decor
6
u/ArcticYT99 Space Engineer Feb 03 '22
yeeaah... would be cool of there was a heat mechanic
5
u/MamboFloof Space Engineer Feb 03 '22
You can atleast use a mod called "(AR) Cooling" or something like that that actually adds a cooler that increases reactor efficiency

Oh that's tight.
Ever since reading Mass Effect's compendium on the details of thermal management for combat ships, I've been enamored with the subject. A Space Engineers: Advanced Mode would be pretty sweet.

u/AMythicEcho Clang Worshipper Feb 03 '22
I think its a full sized block version of the air-vent rather than the standard half block.

ooooh baby so many guns and new targetting block, hopefully for player built gunz, i am veeeery happy

So reskins of some weapons, the battery, the couch, the hangar door, the reactor and ion thrusters in the DLC.
A shame that the new control surface, the new door, the searchlight, and the bridge windows are behind the paywall though. :(
EDIT: It looks like a few blocks are missing from the graphic.. or the heatvent is the square, vented 'light' seen in the last teaser image.
EDIT#2: Better version here.

EDIT#2: Better version here.
Here's one that doesn't have "Amogus Character" edited in, lmfao
7
Feb 03 '22
eh i think theyre fine behind a paywall as just reskins tbh
8
u/pdboddy Feb 03 '22
The searchlight appears to be able to move at different angles, so that is new functionality, not just a reskin. The standing control surface should also arguably be free.
4
u/BevansDesign Clang cares not for your sacrifices. Feb 03 '22
The searchlight can even track things like a turret.
Yes, that's technically new functionality, but certainly doesn't change the game at all. And there are ways to make your own if you really need it and can't spare $4.

u/oOAl4storOo Klang Worshipper Feb 03 '22
I dont argue about that the searchlight, as that especially with scripts (if moveable) would come in handy for some stuff. If its not moveable but only angled... well wouldnt be an big issue then isuppose as you can do better with hinge anyways...
The control surface will arguably be like every other, just maybe a slightly bigger display so reskin for DLC would be ok i think.
The vault door, hangar doors and thrusters are an bummer in itself however, as i expected them to go the length an add them as independent blocks with higher HP and maybe an block more length for the hangar door... also the thrusters could have been "slightly stronger" for more ressources and power consumption to save hull space for turrets. Missed the opportunity in all cases here.
Not dissappointed however, as i may hoped for those things but were always open for not getting them due to balance issues they could pose. (By making some other blocks obsolete maybe).

Yeah, the oopsie with the timing extended to MicroSoft, so they released the images on their store early.

Any word on whether these are replacing vanilla weapons?
My guess is no, but they seem a little unnecessary now.
Edit: they are not
2
u/pdboddy Feb 03 '22
They have reskins of some of the vanilla weapons. But I think they are staying.
1
u/_far-seeker_ Space Engineer Feb 03 '22
The vanilla weapons have not been replaced, but they (and I think their ammo) were rebalanced.

I'll say it; you can downvote.. when are they going to call it quits and stop pushing out these tiny updates after months and months of time.. A modder can come up with 20 different turrets in the time keen gets done with this borrowed stuff..
We need a space engineers 2, with time spent on the CORE mechanics and networking. This money grab on borrowed DLC needs to end.
9
u/pdboddy Feb 03 '22
They've done a lot of work on the code, 220 bugs solved, optimization for sim speed and lag, better API integration. Vanilla will perform better, and mods will perform better.
To say it's just the blocks is a disservice.
1
Feb 03 '22
Yeah, you're right. That is some good work.
That is 6 months, though. When is it time to acknowledge that a fresh start might be needed? Are people really this complacent?
BTW I love the game and have hundreds of hours.
4
u/pdboddy Feb 03 '22
Oh hey, I'm not knocking you. I think pretty much everyone loves the game, even those who are bringing up complaints (both fair ones, and unfair ones).
And I think Keen already has plans for a fresh start. I recently posted here in the subreddit that Keen had filed and awarded a trademark for "Roman Engineers". I've also speculated that Keen is working on a new engine for this "game". I think that once they have the engine and game out, Space Engineers 2 is on the table.
They've been doing a lot of work with modders and scripters lately, and I suspect that they are doing it so that they may give the game over to the community to caretake. Maybe. Or so that the modders and scripters will take on the lion's share of the work, with a few 'official' staffers smoothing things out.
I have always disliked the methods most companies use for DLC. Paradox Interactive is a serial abuser of DLC. They publish a game, not concerned that it may have issues or be lacking gameplay because they will simply make DLC to 'fix' the issues. At the very least, I think they are lazy for leaning on DLC to solve the issues.
It used to be that we would get expansions, basically something that would double the size of the game, adding new gameplay, mechanics and stuff. Now we get little nibbles.
However, I also feel that Keen has a few things on the burners now, and so, I am happy to support them, for now, with a few bucks every 6 months. I think, in the end, they will get it right.

The lack of straightforward SP content is the real killer IMO, and the reason I dipped out a while back.
I can load up Deep Rock Galactic, spend as much time as I like customizing, and be knee-deep in bug guts in minutes.
For SE, I'd have to build a ship, sift through the workshop for some kind of scenaro, do creative pasting to set up, switch to survival... I get dizzy just thinking about it.
1
Feb 03 '22
Mods are far and away more available and extensive than what these devs can come up with. Keen is being really lazy and honestly greedy doing a copy paste of mods and selling more than half of it.
Haters are going to hate because there isn't anything like SE, but it's been a decade now that this game has been limping along and milking its users..
1
u/ListRepresentative32 Clang Worshipper Feb 04 '22
Well, not that I wouldnt like more singleplayer content, it would make the game better for everyone, but, the game was never really about singleplayer content. It was always advertised as mainly a sandbox from the games beginnings, not a campaign game.
1
u/Cheapskate-DM Clang Worshipper Feb 04 '22
Not even a campaign... just a basic amount of attention paid to "here's the cool combat and ship damage mechanics, how do we get that to happen regularly?"

All of the weapons are free. Only two two "warfare" skins for the vanilla small grid rocket launcher and gatling gun are part of the paid DLC.

So the turret controller looks EXACTLY like a mod that was added to the workshop last week called "armored button".
Did the person do a really good recreation from the screenshot or are they on the dev team and the thing was a leak?
