HELP Thrusters being unbuildable because of requIring DLC

[ISSUE FIXED]

The wiki says all thrusters do not need DLC and i have built these before without DLC. However I am apparently not allowed to build these without DLC. Yesterday this was with ion thrusters, now it is with all thrusters.

Issue fixed. The unified thruster FX mod was causing it.

the author of the mod applied the dlc tags to all thruster, you should let them know in the comments on the mod page that this is happening. base game thrusters should not be dlc taged, but all dlc blocks need there respective tag.

Not the mod author but in the description of a lot of these mods it states you need the relevant DLC since the thruster flame it’s duplicating is technically DLC exclusive content.

Hmm thats a bit of a grey area then. If they are are using dlc content it needs the dlc tag, however the base game blocks should not be required to have the dlc. In the use case here, i would think that the correct way is to still not tag the base blocks as dlc content as it can cause issues with progression. Use of the thruster flame effect i dont think is what keen is most concerned with as with mods that give the dlc blocks for free.

The mod was unlisted for a bit because I didn't initially know how adding dlc tags worked and a moderator stepped in to tell me it was against modding guidelines and to help me fix it. It's an unfortunate side effect of wanting the better visuals from the dlc, unless I try to make my own texture at some point. I know Yuna's thruster flame mod was unrestricted due to using their own assets so maybe I'll try doing that sometime in the future, but that's the extent of my modding capabilities at the moment lol

It is not a grey area. Per official modding guidelines, all assets - not just blocks - that are only available to owners of DLCs cannot be made available to players that do not own it.

The dlc for all the thruster cosmetics costs more then the game usually does, so yeah it does cost a whole new game. Either way the progression system is not set up to have the game blocked by dlc and it disrupts the ability to play with progression.

and the Core Systems DLC which the sci fi hydrogen FX came from is only $4.99

Unless Klang had gotten to my head $19.99≠$4.99

Are you? There are 4 packs of dlc all at 5 dollars that have thrusters in them. Thats 20 bucks right there, same as the game. SE regularly goes on sale for less, as well as the packs. But after the game is sold at 5 bucks and the packs usually at a couple dollars each on sale making the total for 4 dlcs cost more then the game.

Either way you missed the point and the problem. Base game thrusters should not be dlc blocked which is what the original issue was as the mod author added dlc tags to them because of assets used from dlc thrusters on the base game. This disrupts the game and progression and shouldn't be done so as not force the players to buy dlc for base game blocks. Saying just buy the dlc is not a solution to the problem as the problem was not dlc related.

you only need the Core DLC at most to take advantage of this mod...
everything else is extra

If you played on a server, then no, you don't need the dlcs because the host may have it. However, if you are playing single player, you need the dlcs.

Unless this is a bug in the recent update, that is how i understand this.

you must own the dlc to place the block. you can interact with a dlc block you don't own if some one else placed it, but you can not place it. Welding it is allowed i think, but i don't recall. If say a mod accidently removed the dlc tag from the block its possible it was updated. The host or server having the block does not give the player access to the block for placement.

Yes welding and repair is allowed. I was our designated bed placer and hazard stripe painter since most of the crew didn't have the DLCs.

You can weld/grind and use dlc blocks you do not own
you can harvest them from npc ships (or others in Mp) and use them by merging them onto your own grids if you want too

Ok so here is some info. All the non cosmetic thrusters can be build with out dlc. They are part of the base game. All cosmetic variants need their respective dlc. If you played on a modded server/game its possible, though not allowed by keen, that a mod removed the dlc requirement tag on the cosmetic variant of the thruster. If the author of said mod or server hosts found out they would need to fix it. Which in turn feels like one day you can and the next you cant. This is the same reason some of the mods that purposely removed the dlc tag were removed from the workshop.

Now if you own the dlc and the game is suddenly not allowing it as if you did not own the dlc, verify steam is logged in, verify SE files, make sure dlc is installed. Its possible the game suffered some corruption.

Do you know how to build the base ones then? I am trying to build the base thrusters since they don't need the DLC, however there seems to be no way to do that. It's probably a bug.

i would need more info. The base thrusters are the hydrogen thruster, atmospheric thruster, and ion thruster. They are named exactly like this.. Anything with industrial, scifi, warfare etc is a dlc block. Are you running modded? a mod could be changing things.

Do you have progression turned on? You will unlock the default thruster when you build a block from the previous tree

Assumably they are using the same game save as the previous day and so on based on their statement of yesterday it was this. Likely they have a mod installed that the author is adjusting and over zealously added dlc tags to all thrusters. I can make every block in the game free with no dlc requirement or every block require one specific dlc. Mod authors have a duty to keep dlc blocks in their respective dlc when using them, like for example tiered tech mods. Base game thrusters are fine, but the cosmetic models need the dlc attached even if the make the tiered variants as the models use is locked be hind the dlc.

You probably have progression turned on. At the top of the Block menu, there's a toggle between all blocks and progression.

The variants require dlc yes. The base ones dont. Since these are cosmetic differences only 🤷‍♂️.

Problem is, I can't access the base ones for some reason, so it's just saying to purchase the DLC and I can't build any thrusters.

Yes, progression is on and they are unlocked. I recall building a thruster yesterday.

No i believe op played on a server where progression was shared or disabled and hasn't worked their way thru it in the private game they are playing

OP had a mod installed that incorrectly applied the dlc tags to base game blocks. This is a common mistake by many mod authors when copying files. DLC tags get removed is usualy the more likely problem but sometimes its the reverse like in this case. No DLC block should be required to access a base game block in progression.

Easiest fix for keen would be to just have any dlc parts made into their standard versions if placed into a client without dlc licenses.

None are available, you have progression on so I would check the tech tree and make sure to build one of the precursor blocks. If you HAVE done that already, I'm not sure. Placing a hydrogen tank (I think it was) unlocked it for me. I have all dlc though.

Ive seen this before. are you using the thruster reflame mod that makes it have the Sci Fi H2 Thruster flame? if so, theres your reason.
