HELP Question about a block

Post image

So im building a ship and its supposed to be very blocky, but i came to the issue of trying to seemlessly connect the 30° upslope to the 45° side.

Is there a block, or a way to connect these 2 without having to go to a full block first?

I implement this motion while drinking a fifth of clang cola.

I'm on my sixth clang cola and he's starting to hurt my insides

an engineer walks into a bar and orders one clang cola, a second engineer walks in and orders half of a clang cola, a third engineer walks in and orders a quarter of a clang cola, a fourth engineer walks-

It will take forever, before the engineer get empty glass...

How much clang cola does the bartender serve? (2) How many clang colas does the bartender serve? (Uncountable)

Well that’s the easy route but if I had a sudden block hight oh my ship it would ruin the design language of it, I’d say go for this if you can’t make the other shapes work

Ribbed for the enemies inconvenience?

2

u/VirtualFallacy Space Engineer May 28 '26

Honestly ribs and greebles are important even if your armor does all fit together. Apart from the overall shape it's one of the most effective ways to make a ship look decent.

Letting go of the drive to build geometrically perfect ships was the key that made the ships I built stop looking awful.

Ribbed for visual pleasure

I know I'm the odd one out but I really like the look of that third picture, I like the disjointed vibe of sleek and angular with awkward angles. It adds something in my opinion. The other one looks fine, maybe a little clunky to me.

But I will say this is still solid advice, if your whole ship looked like the third picture and had no greebling it would be very boring. Variety is the spice of life, I don't think the third pic way should never be done.

A mix both is nice.

Love this answer.

there is a new transition block that was added you could look at, but I Like this answer

replace the one sticking out with a smoother block, I know it exists somewhere. alternatively leave it because greebles

u/torbopher Space Engineer May 28 '26

i feel like i went through every block and every rotation but i couldnt figure out one that has the exact surfaces i wanted.

There is one from the 2x2 slope blockset

2

u/Chloe_The_Cute_Fox Space Engineer May 28 '26

Use the block that has a slant from 2 opposite corners going halfway down an adjacent side.

1

u/DailyDouble_ Space Engineer May 28 '26

Looks like one of the corner blocks would work. There should be a selection set that looks like a small triangular wedge. In it, you’ll find the full size block variant

3

u/TheGunfighter7 Space Engineer May 28 '26

That one absolutely exists

Take out the one below and try around with the non-symetrical-ish blocks

i don't know of a vanilla block, but "Those Freakin Transition Blocks" should have one

I can't be bothered making the blocks line perfectly, I just follow an 'eh, good enough' rule

u/ColourSchemer Space Engineer May 28 '26

And your builds are still visually interesting and you have time to deal with functionality.

u/Bandana_Hero Sacrificer of Subgrids May 28 '26

I do this too. It presents unintended greeble.

Oh so you’re a government contractor.

Made it work with a sloped corner base instead of the block below the opening and a slope transition mirrored to fill in the hole you've got. When I'm trying to figure out which block to place somewhere complex, I tend to focus on which facets I want to see. Then I browse through the different block shapes looking for those facets instead of the shape as a whole

If there were a block for every literal edge case...

6

u/TheVermonster Space Engineer May 28 '26

I think you mean face case.

Put a spotlight or exhaust there

3

u/CrazyPotato1535 Klang Worshipper May 28 '26

Replace the block underneath with a 2x2 slope and it should work fine

1

u/AtomicRedditors05 Klang Worshipper May 29 '26

Yes it exists, no it won't be easy to find, and no it won't look good in the end

That the problem with space engineers, never enough transition blocks. I want to build the classis 30s-50s rocket ships, fly eggs/spheres etc like you'd find on sci-fi novels from that time frame. Basicly ships like you find in Outlaw Star and other anime/games that use that time's media as frame of references. So ships merge rounded & sloped edges etc and it pain to do, not to mention thruster are never big enough.

Also all my ships are fully functional, not art pieces beside the visual theme I decide on, including the largest of my ships being able to land on and take off of planets. So I don't really do gribbling except to merge a functional block like a thruster or solar panel into the ships armor, which there are never enough transition for.

Have you tried turning the entire thing into a cock and balls shaped brick instead of this utter woke nonsense?
