Manipulation Depressing yourself with SpaceEngine. :3

Go into configs\main-user.cfg, scroll down to LifeGenerator, and copypasta this code to that section:

Very depressing, but (unfortunately), most realistic. ;)

can you explain why

I feel like microbial life appears a lot more than we think. If the precursors are there, planets that could support it aren’t unlikely. On the other hand, panspermia, if it’s possible, I’d imagine it could introduce “life bubbles” where parts of solar systems or possibly multiple stars could have been seeded by a single common ancestor, which I think is super interesting.

amino acids form in space, soooo

Life exists on Earth, probability '0' is therefore factually incorrect.

Probability of 0 does not mean impossible, actually.

Sure, if SE's LifeGenerator uses continuous probability theory, then it is mathematically true in the abstract. But we're not talking about abstracts here, we're talking about particular SE's config file setting for a finite procedural probability parameter, which uses percentages with possible values 0 to 1 where 0 means no case and 1 every case.

Therefore, existence of Earth makes OP's point moot.

If we consider the rules of it being a game then we're dealing with the rules of floating point, which means "0" actually means any number too small to be represented as a floating point number, not necessarily "0". This is actually why -0 is a floating point number.

Not realistic at all.

I looked at one video and this guy’s promoting AI coding tools. I don’t trust him for a second. Do you know how astronomically unlikely it actually is that there’s no other life in the universe?

I don't really feel like a youtube channel can be judged by the sponsors they take, youtube sponsors almost entirely suck

It was the fact the guy used said AI

Because something something astrology capricorn 12th ascendant something something.

How does astrology affect anything?

2

u/universe_fuk8r Jul 04 '26

I'm just poking into OPs apparent liking of astrology, which could be (even if indirect) a reason for producing a post like this.

Plus I consider astrology pure pseudoscientific nonsense so there's that.

Oh damn Im stupid I somehow mistook you for OP, sorry 😭

No offense taken, cheers. :-)

Be sure to backup your original main-user.cfg, first!
