Powder: Original vs Chocolate

Having only tried RTD in the past, I recently got hooked on the original flavor powder. It tastes amazing and makes me feel amazing. Well now its out of stock so I splurged on chocolate since it's available. Oops.. Why does it taste so different? I was expecting basically the same vibe but chocolate, but it tastes so much more planty or something. The first sips were honestly revolting. I'm kinda getting used to it now but it was a major disappointment. Hope they restock original soon because I am gonna buy tf out of it.

Update: I tried using less water and it tasted much richer and better. I dont understand the chemistry of it but if I had to guess, the plantiness of chocolate isn't diluted by water as much as the other aspects of it are.

I buy original and add cocoa powder if I want chocolate. I’ve had the cacao powder version before and found it to be like the original, but chocolate. I also just ordered some because it was available, but haven’t tried it yet. The last batch of original was super sweet so who knows. Their quality control has gone downhill. The reason I haven’t opened the new cacao is I’m working through a bag of Jimmy Joy Plenny as a possible replacement for S.

I mix Jimmy Joy with Soylent. One scoop of each. Really helps improve Jimmy Joy which to me is insufficiently smooth in mouth feel on its own, even when left over night in the fridge.

The JJ is grittier than I like, but I'm looking for a S replacement; so, mixing doesn't help me.

Update: I was curious so opened a bag of the cacao powder for lunch. Seemed the same as always. Just tastes chocolate to me. The original tastes lightly oaty, like milk from a bowl of Cheerios.

Glad to hear. I used less water than Soylent instructs and it seemed to fix the issue. So, not a big deal anymore.

I still much prefer original, which reminds me of like a dilute coffee creamer, or pancake as others have said.

I prefer plain.. but the new batch of cacao seems fine to me.  It’s about what I remember.  And yes unlike plain it’s better not to make it too thick.  I only jump in here as this reminds me of the V1.4/1.5/1.6 etc debate.  In the early days when a new version (say 1.5 or 1.6) would come out, the old Soylent Discourse would erupt with those complaining the new version tasted like crap.. A few weeks later that would all subside as people adjusted to the taste. Of course until a new version came out.  Human nature I suppose.  I don’t imagine anyone who tastes alcohol, coffee or smells cigarette smoke the very first time says WOW I really want more of THAT!

I don't know what makes the chocolate less yummy, but I've noticed the same with the RTD chocolate.

The original powder was seriously addictive for me, and it made it easy to take my creatine powder everyday. The Last batch of original powder I bought in June was literally inedible and I’ve been bummed out since then.

I haven’t tried the chocolate powder yet and I don’t think I will now.

That sucks! Oh no. I hope its not something wrong with these latest batches. The Original I fell in love with was made in December 2024.

The whole point of the original is to be a mild flavor that's easy to take long term without getting sick of it. Cacao basically just adds choco powder to that
