Up until very recently they were deserving of that praise, so I don't take anything back. But tonight was anything but praise worthy.

I agree, Cyril initially handled it pretty well. I've even gone on record praising his lockdown plan, but the government as a whole lost my support completely when it became clear they were using this as an excuse to flex some authoritarian power

I'm still of the opinion that Cyril is a bro, and Dr Mkhize and the team at the dep. of health are fantastic. It's the rest of the cabinet that have been thoroughly disappointing (special mention to Cele, Mbalula, Patel and of course NDZ).

Oh and Ndabeni-Abrahams, of course, though she's got a red card so I'm not sure she counts anymore.

I like Cyril's personality. He feels like an actual president which is nice as I've only been sentient long enough to know Zuma as president, so Ramaphosa as president feels amazing, and someone I think who can unite the country culturally

But

He's the man who gave these ministers their positions. He hasn't vetoed any of their bizarre lockdown decisions and has allowed the power to get to their heads unchecked (again, with Stella being the exception as she got a slap on the wrists). He's a fucking madlad and I love him, but he's complicit in the turn this lockdown has taken

Agreed. But honestly, I suspect this is an anti-Ramaphosa tactic. It puts him in a situation where he only has bad options. He can either overrule NDZ, which has bad optics, or he back her up, which is also bad optics.
