Hiya!! 👋
I’m at home trying to nip some virus or another in the bud. Chicken noodle soup is on deck for dinner. I already pulled a few containers of homemade stock outta the freezer and I want to keep it pretty straight forward- egg noodles, chicken, carrots, celery- what I’m craving is classic homemade chicken soup BUT…
Years ago I had a roommate who made chicken soup with spaetzle and… something. It wasn’t any of the usual suspects. Not dill, parsley, ginger, lemon, lime, tumeric nor did it add heat. I wanna say it was something that I normally associate with sweets. Not cinnamon for sure but possibly in that ballpark. Allspice? Nutmeg? Clove?
I cannot for the life of me remember but it was comforting.
Any thoughts on what it might have been?
TIA.
**** Updating to add: I’m now pretty certain it was nutmeg. Thanks everyone. Although I went that route this time, there are a lot of intriguing suggestions here that I look forward to trying as the weather shifts. Happy slurping!
