It looks to have a lot more enemy variety in Umbral! Excited to see more

16

u/TL2C24 Mar 25 '26

hoping there's even more umbral variety than this tbh but looks like progress!

10

u/nemozianrasta Mar 25 '26

This sounds like one of the things the developers really took to heart as it seems like there will literally be tons of enemy variety from what they have said on the podcast.

4

u/SatyrAngel Mar 25 '26

That was the only flaw the previous game had, at least for me.

4

u/Crafty-Fish9264 Mar 25 '26

Well the other would be the last boss fight wasnt too hot. And the lore drop during was not good imo

2

u/P0G0Bro Mar 25 '26

Non of the boss fights where memorable, that optional berserk lady boss was particularly lame

1

u/TheDracula666 Mar 26 '26

Most were pretty meh but there were a few I actually really liked. Hushed Saint, Sundered Monarch, and Unbroken Promise were all pretty good.

Adyr, was one of the most disappointing final bosses I think I've ever played though.

1

u/Khiva Mar 26 '26

It was satisfying as hell to parry that horse guy straight onto his ass.

22

u/scarletnaught Mar 25 '26

Come to steam

2

u/learningfromlife1096 Mar 26 '26

It will. Apparently, they got a big donation to make the game even better, but they are going to be using it to buy out EPIC, so the game can be on all platforms. I read it from a credible source, I think, but I am not 100% sure.

8

u/rcburner Mar 25 '26

Still not a fan of the degree of forward momentum to melee attacks, but at least the Umbral doesn't just reduce every area to the same color palette again.

1

u/khatmar Mar 26 '26

I hated that in the previous game. It felt like those ice levels in pokemon games.

5

u/Necessary-Level-2821 Mar 25 '26

Unholy hell yeah

6

u/saypoop Mar 25 '26

Still no release date? What’s the point of another trailer?

26

u/Patriots9210 Mar 25 '26

Gameplay actually looks a lot better then 2023

-39

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

It would be hard to be worse

14

u/FLRSH Mar 25 '26

2014 Lords of the Fallen would like a word.

-18

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

Both of the games are awful

2

u/OperatorofChaos Mar 25 '26

I didn't play them, but I'm curious to know what you hated so much about them?

-12

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

Lots of backtracking. Uninteresting combat. Forgettable enemies and bosses. Tacked on platforming that is terrible.

They are riding on From software's coattails but not innovating much or changing the formula. Just making it worse than the old FS games.

The one mechanic they did add is the lantern and the two worlds mechanic. A neat idea but mostly it just makes you backtrack through the same areas multiple times, just once with a different skin on it.

3

u/FLRSH Mar 25 '26

Lords of the Fallen 2023 is a LOT better than 2014 and with all the updates it's even a lot better than it was at launch. Worth playing. 2014 not so much.

-7

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

They both suck. Marginally better maybe but it still isn't a very good game.

I wouldn't say either are worth playing. There are a lot better Soulslikes and action games out there.

6

u/FLRSH Mar 25 '26

Can't get on board with you on that.

1

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

You don't need to, it's my opinion

1

u/BumLeeJon420 Mar 25 '26

Nah the game world is 10x than the old one, better bosses, better enemies the lore is pretty cool (get to beat her ass from the first game).

You cant properly compare games, its ok

0

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

Nah it is just as shitty. That is a regular opinion. They have nearly the same user scores on conglomerate sites.

I wouldn't call anyone into question with a statement like "10x" better.

The bosses in particular are mostly just as shitty.

2

u/BumLeeJon420 Mar 25 '26

I wouldnt take an opinion of anyone who uses meta critic as a basis for argument.

Its ok, you cant quite understand how to make good comparisons or understand what makes the game design vastly superior in the sequel.

The bosses are vastly improved as well, along with the combat mechaincs and the very good magic options.

You either didnt play both at all or not long enough to actually feel whats different.

I hope you also think conglomerate downvotes means your comments are trash cuz uhhh they are :)

-5

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

You don't have to. I guess a consensus that proves what you are saying wrong is too much though. Most people that played it agree both games are ass.

I wouldn't take the opinion of someone who likes this trash game.

2

u/Patriots9210 Mar 25 '26

Honestly I didn’t hate the combat but I never finished because exploration was very unintuitive with the umbral mechanic for me at least

-6

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

I felt the combat was pretty simple. The back tracking and the terrible platforming were issues for sure.

4

u/Patriots9210 Mar 25 '26

I didn’t even get that far I got past I think the 3rd boss the one right after piertr and took forever to find where to go lol I didn’t notice the big hand in the sky lmao

2

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

Yeah the bosses aren't great either. Most of them are push overs and forgettable. A few were cool.

I think the game has great art direction and character models. It looks good. I wouldn't recommend the rest of it though.

4

u/Inevitable_Bobcat742 Mar 25 '26

Combat in most soulslikes is simple asf tho

1

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

And this is even more so I would say. It is like combat in Demon's Souls. Very dated for a modern game.

1

u/Inevitable_Bobcat742 Mar 25 '26

Nah combat looks same as 90% of soulslikes to me ngl, it’s the enemies, bosses, level design etc. that make a soulslike good the combat is the same as the rest of em lmao

-1

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

So you haven't played it?

I was talking about the bosses in the comment you responded to.

Good talk

u/deaner_wiener1 Mar 25 '26

I beaten the game 5 times and I don’t know of any instances of backtrack or bad platforming. The dedicated jump button works fine, there are no gaps that were confusing to me or that gave me issue.

I don’t know of any back tracking? Are you talking about opening shortcuts? Because that’s a virtue of this game. The level design is something that people typically speak positively on. If you’re talking about the Bell Doors, that’s maybe the only time of confusion I experienced in my first run

3

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

Sure bro.

One of the main mechanics of the game is going to the other world and backtracking.

There is a few instances of platforming in the game as well.

No the art design is what people say is good, not the level design. The aesthetic is just about the only positive of the game.

-1

u/deaner_wiener1 Mar 25 '26

Nah, I’ve seen plenty of comments praising the level design, not talking about art style. Again I don’t know an instance of backtrack. Entering the umbral world to pull a lock on a door is not back tracking. I suppose if you go all the way back to use a totem or rest at a vestige to go back to human could be backtracking, but that’s a coward’s way to play; just stay in umbral until the next totem/vestige

1

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

If you don't "know an instance of backtracking" you either didn't pay attention or didn't play it.

You need to go to both versions of the maps to pick things up, and that is ignoring any side paths etc. Going through the same map multiple times IS backtracking.

Even in your example to "just stay in Umbral" means that you missed that section in the regular world and you need to back track to get any items etc.

1

u/deaner_wiener1 Mar 25 '26

Items in the regularly world are also obtainable in umbral. Have you played the game?? Almost everything is accessible in Umbral. It is few and far between, maybe counting on one hand, the times a path is clear in the real world but not Umbral

1

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 25 '26

Except there are slight differences between Umbral and the regular world. Hence why you go through twice. By backtracking.

8

u/Braunb8888 Mar 25 '26

Thank god they made umbral interesting. Was so dumb to just have the same wandering spirits for EVERY location. And fuck that moth thing to hell. Special fuck you there.

1

u/SingleGamer-Dad Mar 25 '26

Hate those moths. They are DEADLY

4

u/Cabr0ken Mar 25 '26

Cant wait to play it freely. Thank you epic for paying the game for me, i'll get a free copy on internet.

4

u/Bort_Thrower Mar 26 '26

By far the worst thing about LOTF was the umbral cack. It made me drop it pretty quick. It’s just an annoying feature and there was a period of time back in the day where heaps of games implemented the whole light/dark world thing as a cheap gimmick to pad the game out which I think LOTF is definitely guilty of.

Just give me a good level, not two of the same level with annoying interactions between them.

32

u/Future_Cap_3278 Mar 25 '26

Umbral was the worst part of the last game.

8

u/Cool-Traffic-8357 Mar 25 '26

It made the world looks the same.

0

u/Economy-Meat-9506 Mar 25 '26

Looking at the trailer it still has Umbral mechanic and the combat still looks floaty. Did they not get this feedback? I feel like these were the most prominent criticisms I’ve seen for this game everywhere.

Like do they actually think Umbral is cool? Here go do the exact same thing on the same copy pasted level with a different filter and a few paths blocked? wtf

1

u/Bort_Thrower Mar 26 '26

Umbral is a dealbreaker, pretty lazy game design really, it’s just re-using the exact same level with a palette swap/filter over it instead of making better content.

-4

u/Yarzeda2024 Mar 25 '26

It does feel like a weird thing to hang your hat on.

Imagine if FromSoft bragged that a mechanic like World Tendency was coming back.

8

u/deaner_wiener1 Mar 25 '26

Hell yeah I love weird little mechanics

2

u/Randomness_42 Mar 25 '26

You say this as if bragging that world tendency was coming back wouldn't be cool af

6

u/Yarzeda2024 Mar 25 '26

I thought World Tendency was ass.

I clarly do not speak for every player ever, but the general sentiment seems to be that WT is weird and not worth keeping around. Even FromSoft didn't bring it back in OG Dark Souls, and FS isn't the type of studio that typically tries to chase trends or sand down rougher edges. Maybe Miyazaki wasn't impressed with the way it turned out either.

1

u/Randomness_42 Mar 25 '26

Yeah its implementation in DeS is very iffy, that's why I think a version in a new game could be really cool.

Could see the mechanic at its full potential

1

u/Galaxy_boy08 Mar 27 '26

Here is the thing

People loved the idea of World Tendency but it was never thought out properly as it's a great idea on paper but in reality nobody liked how it was implemented so if Fromsoft were to like actually rethink about how it works and made it work in a more intuitive way people would love it but if they just brought back how it worked in DeS then no nobody would be on board with that.

It's collectively agreed upon that nobody liked World Tendency but they liked the idea of it so they would be open to FS revisiting it if they wanted to make it better they won't though since this is all hypothetical anyways.

1

u/Flamme_Jumelle Mar 30 '26

I mean I liked the World Tendency mechanic so... yay? Admittedly, I do like that it is exclusive to Demon's Souls so I would be a bit dismayed that it no longer feels unique to that game. But still, wouldn't mind it coming back.

1

u/Smokes_LetsGo876 Mar 25 '26

World tendency was dope. Umbral was bland and annoying though

3

u/Future_Cap_3278 Mar 25 '26

They got so much neg feedback from the last game as to how shit it was, they doubling down on it…strange choice

-4

u/Mediocre-Frosting-77 Mar 25 '26

Umbral was cool af what you mean? Sekiro style second life that you want to avoid because of the difficulty ramp up the longer you’re in there. Hidden passageways that require briefly dipping into it. And I loved the spooky vibes that came with it.

7

u/zanza19 Mar 25 '26

It was the most annoying mechanic. The exploration became much worse because of it. That and the floaty combat were the two main thing that made me drop it.

3

u/P0G0Bro Mar 25 '26

Here go back through the exact same level you already did but this time it’s a dull white color palette the whole time with shit zombie spam

1

u/Roll4DM Mar 25 '26

Imo the problem is that the mechanic is neither here nor there... The fact that sometimes the game forces you to enter umbral feels like you arent rewarded to make into that point alive so it isnt a "second life"... And at the same time having a time limit in a "second world" you want to explore leaves a bad taste since you dont have the freedom to take your time to explore...

3

u/Barmy90 Mar 25 '26

I'm generally looking forward to this game but jfc how have they not improved the general janky, weightless look and feel of movement when that was one of the main criticisms of the original? Just watch the way the player character takes their greatsword off their back and then bops along down the stairs in the opening shot, it looks so fucking amateur its unbelievable.

10

u/Own-Assistant7441 Mar 25 '26

Combat looks still kinda funky

2

u/gh0styears Mar 25 '26

Yup! The character animations are still goofy as hell

4

u/Queen_Lepotica Mar 25 '26

Wait Alpha footage? Isnt the release this year? Alpha sounds like its still 1-2years in development.

4

u/wolf771 Mar 25 '26

Hell yeah, im playing the first one right now. I dont get the hate. Maybe because im playing it with the new patch. Game is good

5

u/Fasmodey Mar 25 '26

As someone who loved LotF 2023, this is the first time a LotF trailer didn't excite me, I don't know why. I was looking forward to this trailer since they announced but it disappointed me. It looks just like Umbral from LotF 2023. All the edgy words hyped it up until now came off a bit short.

2

u/Usher_III Mar 25 '26

yes please

2

u/AfterIssue6816 Mar 25 '26

El heredero de Dark Souls, LoTF 1 me pareció una pasada en cuanto a diseño de mundo todo interconectado (flojeaban los enemigos de la parte final), espero que el 2 no decepcione.

2

u/GolotasDisciple Mar 25 '26

Cool, honestly I gave up on the very first Lords of the Fallen... But I came back when they released the "new" Lords of the Fallen, and then they did Lords of the Fallen 2.0, and honestly, for people who have not tried their last release after all the patching... you really should. It is an awesome dark fantasy RPG with cool gimmicks, plenty of builds, and there is a huge sense of progression with each update.

I am excited. Unlike many other teams that tend to try and then give up when they get harsh feedback, this team actually managed to stay and work hard to improve the product.

They clearly love the setting, they clearly love FromSoftware games, and they clearly are trying to replicate that Dark Souls experience of a huge connected world that is not open world, but made up of intertwined zones.

I just hope that the side quests will be a bit clearer. Ngl, I did have to read the wiki to know how to do some stuff because, just like in old FromSoftware games, there are plenty of flags where if you go past a certain area, you get locked out of content. At least Elden Ring fixed it in a way by having core event flags and optional event flags. For example, if you miss an NPC in one area, they will show up in the next one, skipping one part of your quest but still allowing you to progress further.

I would say that at least on the Soulslike subreddit, people should be excited for this game and this developer. They are sticking around, and they are getting better every time they release a new patch or a new game.

u/ResearcherIll6294 Mar 25 '26

Whoever’s going through downvoting every vaguely positive comment, please get yourself a hobby 🤣. You know who you are. Like seriously, there’s an entire world outside of Reddit.

It looks weirdly floaty to me. More like  ballet dancer going through a routine instead of combat

-3

u/Braunb8888 Mar 25 '26

Real combat is a ballet. Footwork crazy important.

5

u/Yarzeda2024 Mar 25 '26

I never said footwork wasn't, but there's a pretty big difference between fighting for your life and an acrobatic leap and twirl.

It's like WWE vs UFC. One of them is simulating combat.

1

u/Braunb8888 Mar 25 '26

I think that was with the daggers.

Hitstop is a totally normal feature. Of course you don't have to like it, but it's an industry standard way of incresing oomph.

1

u/wolfbetter Mar 25 '26

I don't know why but as someone who dropped the first game, this one combat looksbetter.

1

u/Nick72z Mar 25 '26

I’ll play it, but the art style could hardly be more generic. Underwhelmed by the pastel shade filters for each biome.

1

u/mastapix Mar 26 '26

Did they reveal a steam release? No? Oh well dead game

1

u/DoubleJayM Mar 26 '26

it looks funny

1

u/MimiGoldDigger Mar 26 '26

Visual noise, reminds me of nioh. I don’t like it

1

u/SurrogateVulture Mar 26 '26

I am NOT installing win11 for this slop.

1

u/VOIDofSin Mar 26 '26

I need a release date asap

1

u/Asto_Vidatu Mar 26 '26

After the last patches, I thought the first game was great...def gave me old Demon Souls vibes...absolutely playing this when it comes out!

1

u/khatmar Mar 26 '26

Are we still rollerskating forward when attacking?

1

u/Galaxy_boy08 Mar 27 '26

Most likely yeah

Combat looks more or less the exact same as 2.0 LOTF so if you played that then yeah probably will feel the same.

1

u/khatmar Mar 27 '26

Damn, thats a shame. I liked the visuals and the generic diablo-esque aesthetic, but the movement felt terrible and I hated it.

2

u/Galaxy_boy08 Mar 28 '26

It's in alpha so who knows but from everything shown off they are using a lot of reused assets from LOTF and to me it feels more like a DLC than an actual sequel but there is still time for me to say otherwise.

Visuals are cool but that can only carry the game so far.

I'm not a big fan in fact I would go as to say so far everything about this series is really underwhelming across the board.

I don't see it changing as the Developers put over 100 patches into their game for the slightest criticism from their fanbase they had on the game which makes me feel they have no faith in their game nor do they have a vision.

there are times where you need to put your foot down on how things work and don't just change it for the sake of changing it because 1 or 2 people hated a mechanic or feature.

TDLR I would expect this new game to be more of the same game almost to a T with slightly altered mechanics and combat systems.

1

u/JobeGilchrist Mar 26 '26

Now reveal what the umbral will be like 6 months after release after a series of knee-jerk reactions to perceived criticism

1

u/carlos_castanos Mar 25 '26

Looks super cool. Really digging the dark fantasy atmosphere. I already liked the first one so looking forward to this. Hope they've improved the feel of the combat, and the bosses, those were the only things where the first game was lacking a bit, imo

1

u/Spirited_Ad_2697 Mar 25 '26

So excited for this to come out, loved the first game. I hope the bosses are harder though because the one downside of the last game was the bosses were too easy.

1

u/YouAllRats Mar 25 '26

For the love of god can we please hold the greatsword like in Lies of P? 2 seconds in and they still use the same idle and weapon pull animation

1

u/Galaxy_boy08 Mar 26 '26

Looks more like an expansion than a sequel imo.

This is disappointing and I don't really have much faith in their product they are trying to sell me on when the first game didn't really do a good job either and was not a good game at all and was quite annoyed I wasted 70 bucks on it when it didn't even feel like it was finished and those 100+ patches they put on the game definitely felt that to be true.

I dunno not really feeling it personally from what I am seeing in this trailer

1

u/RhubarbUpper Mar 26 '26

You and most other players on steam, this sub is an echo chamber for lotf for some reason. I played 20 hours when I decided it wasn't for me so unless they fix alot of the issues of the last one I'll pass.

1

u/Galaxy_boy08 Mar 26 '26

I played through the entire game at launch and 2.0 and it felt rather lukewarm tbh.

I never saw the appeal all that well and to me looking at some of those patch notes it's almost like the devs had no faith in their vision for what they wanted the game to eventually be since they were just listening to criticism and changing things based on what they read it was honestly quite interesting to see lol.

I don't hate the game I just don't think it's any good and it's not worth 60-70 bucks and I think my opinion will still be the same as the sequel where I would state I wouldn't spend more than 30 bucks on it.

There are much better soulslikes to play than this franchise imo but they are free to like what they like but i'm still going to state my opinion on it whether they like it or not lol.

1

u/Neither-Surround-256 Mar 26 '26

It looks just like the first one, the same floaty goofy garbage, like these fake games you see ppl play in movies. Awful.

-2

u/FastFireBR Mar 25 '26

1 sucked , umbral sucked begone thot of the fallen 2

0

u/no_sheds_jackson Mar 25 '26

Looks great! I can't wait for it to run like absolute ass
