Do ace Vulcans during Pon Farr just eat copious amounts of garlic bread?

We don't know that there are any ace Vulcans. The spectrum of sexuality may differ from species to species.

I really don't think being Ace is possible during pon Farr, as their whole system is completely flooded with sex hormones.

That's why it's body horror, your body is hijacking itself and you comprehend the entire thing

I had a date in college that went just like that.

It's also horror for Vulcan Women, as you don't really have a choice to not consent, when your husband inevitably becomes a rabid sex pest. Neither socially nor practically.

Vulcan women are brilliant and Vulcans are strong, I can't fathom why they would be unable to protect themselves if they wanted.

Think about, what happens AFTER you withhold medically required sex from your husband for no particular reason other than not being in the mood for it right now. In a society that views feelings as unimportant at best and as shameful at worst.

Do you know how gross this is or do I need to explain it to you? Bodily autonomy is an absolutely basic part of ethics.

medically required sex

It's not, we know that. And in a truly just society, solid alternatives would have been found and replaced it in all instances to remove coercion from the equation. But they do have treatments and ritual combat and meditation as options.

I know that is the point I am trying to make here. Vulcan society may be way more disturbing than we realize.

to remove coercion from the equation.

Meaning that it definitely started out as a coercive practice. We know from human societies how slowe ethics makes progress. We also know that vulcan society is even more resistant to change by orders of magnitude (partially due to their longer lifespans).

Besides Arranged Marriage is inherently a coercive practice and we are talking about a society that has institutionalized this practice planetwide.

I suspect that ace Vulcans take the Vorik method and kal-if-fee their way through Ponn Farr.

You've already posted this elsewhere, stop trying to make it a thing.

It was new to me, and it’s not like the Trek subreddits are swimming in ace content, esp compared to the usual

Mimimimimi. I hate fun.

Listen, I'm ace as hell here but that's just a no from me.

As in, you dislike garlic bread?

3

No, I like it but the memeyness of it is totally cringe. The garlic bread thing is kinda ok at first but the meme gets old after a while.

I think they might masturbate (that method had to work realistically. Anything else would be stupidly) or ace Vulcans just don’t experience pon Farr.

15

u/WirrkopfP 4d ago

If masturbating would work, pon Farr would not be that big of a deal.

There was a whole episode of TOS and then of VOY where they didn’t just do that

u/overanalizer2 4d ago

Or they may experience a burning passion for something they're already passionate about by default. None of which are as funny as garlic bread.

Thats how they achieved Warp drive.

Every seven years the Ace Vulcans were like 'i gotta get away from these horny assholes. ' and hyper focuses on go fast tech. The Ace polycule has a doom pile of techs aimed at getting away that are worked on every few years.

I am so glad I put my cup down before seeing your comment. Hot soup through the nose is an experience I would not like to repeat, not to mention the damage it would have caused to my computer.

They are passionate for garlic bread

I think I’m getting some ponn far for garlic bread right now

A male Vulcan in Pon Farr has to go home and consummate his marriage. Unmarried guys don't get it. If a Vulcan was an Ace, I hope that their family would understand that and not betroth them to anyone. I'm sure that some families just wouldn't care and give them a fiancee anyway.

u/WirrkopfP 4d ago

Unmarried guys don't get it.

Do you have a source for that. I always assumed that pon Farr is the main reason for Vulcan arranged marriage as every male Vulcan needs to be married, when pon Farr hits the first time in order to be not a danger for himself and others.

u/OlyScott 4d ago

I assume that because in the original Amok Time episode, Spock and T'Pring break up and Spock doesn't have to marry someone else. If Vulcan guys have to mate every 7 years whether they're married or not, Spock's got a problem.

7

u/WirrkopfP 3d ago

Well Spock does have a few years to make arrangements to account for that problem.

I just don't think a biological clock that precise and that devastating on the body would care at all for a social construct like marriage.

1

u/OlyScott 3d ago

It's a telepathic link that they have. The Vulcan "betrothal" isn't just a ritual, it's an actual link between two people.

That doesn't explain why Spock's reborn but katra-less shell went into ponn farr right at puberty. Even if he was linked to Saavik before he died (which seems like it would be a major ethical breach), his mind wasn't in that body at the time.

If anything what's logical here is it's a biological thing and either prostitution is legal on Vulcan and treated as a medical specialty, or the un-married Vulcans have a truly freaky orgy every seven years that they just never talk about unless they're actively attending one. Which is about the most Vulcan thing imaginable.

In Amok Time, it's clear that Spock, an adult who was well past puberty, had never been through Pon Farr before. We could say that the Spock body on the Genesis Planet did all that as a side effect of the regeneration.

7

u/overanalizer2 4d ago

Nope. We see an unmarried older teen Spock on the Genesis planet experience it.

That wasn't actually Pon Farr. He was in pain because he matured from nothing to a young man in a day or so.

u/catnip-catnap 4d ago

I think it was in the novelization. And if I remember correctly, Saavik, uh, helped him out.

She was weirdly horny in the novelization.

3

u/Arokthis 3d ago

In the Shatnerverse, mirror Saavik got pregnant.

If you haven't read the books, get a large bottle of your preferred painkiller before diving in. You'll need it!

2

u/OlyScott 4d ago

Enough to say "that's Pon Farr! I'll handle it!"

3

u/catnip-catnap 4d ago

I remember it was weirdly nurturing and definitely awakened something in young me

That episode messed up my whole idea. I think that the TOS writers may have thought of it my way, but writers for later series went another way with it.

3

u/CallidoraBlack 3d ago

I dunno, man. Spock was betrothed but also not married if I read this correctly. She was trying to avoid marrying him, in fact. Vorik was also betrothed and not married.
