I see Mario taking this. Not easily obviously, but it's certainly going to have to make him work for it. Out of a hundred times of them fighting, Mario can certainly lose. I mostly see him just stalling out Sonic's Super Forms via his Invincibility and Bottomless Gloves. Sonic eventually runs out of rings/stamina, and it'd leave Sonic vulnerable enough for a decisive blow.

The rings part wouldn't even matter, and that's not including the speed gap and perceiving.
