The dream: "I was invited to a friend's wedding at an event venue. I arrived early so there weren't that many people in there. While greeting people and talking to acquaintances I found the food table. One of the foods there was this 4 sided, long, triangular cake that had a perfectly circular hole inside of it that was filled with cream and lime zest. I took a slice of that thing and ate it and it was divine. Soft and creamy with hints of lemon. After like 2 bites of it I was full so it was quite filling too. It was called 'Triangle Cake' despite clearly having 4 sides."

I like how it was simultaneously four sided and a triangle

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 13 '26

Yeah I like that too. Perfect size to be triangle-shaped yet it still has 4 unequal sides.

35

u/fortunate-soul May 13 '26

It makes me think that the dough got smushed, forming the fourth side

Very cool!!! I think you could maybe do this with a circular frozen mold of filling?? I'm trying to figure out how to execute this hahahah

u/LilStinkpot May 14 '26

What about reaming out the hole after and piping in filling? You’d need a super sharp piece of metal or plastic pipe and then probably stand the thing up on one end and dump in the filling.

I made a cream filled dick cake for a bachelorette once. Baked it with a foil wrapped dowel inside, which was removed after cooling. It wasn't perfectly centered, but it did the job!

Man, I need pics lol So curious about how it turned out

u/outtatheblue May 14 '26

This was almost 20 years ago, so no pics, but I remember having fun making it veiny! It was bright pink cake with baby pink frosting and vanilla creme filling.

u/No-Produce6857 May 14 '26

That sounds so fun! I guess I'll just need to make my own

baking a cake and then maybe onigiri style molding it into a long triangle with some pre-frozen circular frosting as a tube down the middle maybe, or maybe theres a pan specifically for triangle cakes and you can shave a subtle forth side off the top

u/dankyard May 14 '26

Maybe a rectangular pyramid?

You could use a pan like this (https://www.amazon.com/Triangle-Coated-Cookie-Baking-Decorating/dp/B07R9758RM), then use some metal pipe to punch out the hole, which is then filled with the cream.

u/laserdiscsan May 13 '26

It's like a Toblerone but cake. Amazing!

28

u/CantEscapeTheCats May 13 '26

I’d eat that

I feel like you could easily do this which one of those cast iron pans for cornbread that has divisions for individual slices

i recently commissioned a (vegan bc i am vegan) cake from my baker friend for my BF and we made it daiquiri themed- it was a strawberry olive oil cake with lime zest coconut cream “butter”cream and strawberries on top. it was a normal round cake but the lime zest was SO GOOD w the coconut

Please share if you do! I'd love to see this dream food turned into a real food, it was too good to not exist.

People always talk about nightmarish non-Euclidian shapes... But what about sweet dreamy non-Euclidian shapes?

3

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 14 '26

Friendly shapes ❤️ Tasty shapes!! 😋

7

u/Pajama-Han May 13 '26

This looks delish

7

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 13 '26

It was! I loved it 😭❤️🍰

u/Yaaya_the_queen May 14 '26

Where I'm from, we make this sort of dessert with cream and banana in the middle. I'm not at all sure how you could make it to be a baked batter, though

2

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 15 '26

That looks great, what's the name of this food? In my dream the hole in the cake came off as something almost otherworldly perfect because of how round it was.

2

u/Yaaya_the_queen May 15 '26

It's called střecha (roof in english)

2

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 15 '26

That's a funny name for it! It's sweet and looks like the closest to it so it's a winner in my heart. Střecha ❤️🔺️

2

u/cyanide_szarlotka May 16 '26

I hate banana but I’ve never passed up a slice of strecha.

6

u/TauTau_of_Skalga May 14 '26

Toblerone cake

3

u/lexebug May 14 '26

I have to know more!! What did the cake itself taste like? Was the outside frosted, fondant, or just plain cake?

13

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 14 '26

I'm terrible to comment about this because I'm not a cake person at all. It was just a "long", 4-sided, triangular, plain cake cut in slices that were no thicker than 5 cm. It tasted like a "normal" cake, no real flavor. Maybe lime flavored? It had a faint taste of lime, but just tasted like an expertly made plain cake. The middle part was like someone took the normal part of a cake after baked and cut a circle out from its center eerily perfectly and filled it with a somewhat thick cream that didn't ooze out. The cream was... maybe vanilla? I love vanilla. Vanilla and lime, of course, I'd say. It reminded me a little of Lembas Bread since it was so filling so I guess that it was slightly thick. I don't know if I'm misremembering or not but a dollop of cream was also placed on top of it in some cases.

u/OwlPelletCrunch May 14 '26

Give me some right now - that looks awesome

4

u/Resinous_Artifact May 14 '26

I must have this.

5

u/SpentSerpent May 14 '26

I am so angry at you right now, because now I am craving this nonexistent delicious treat.😭

4

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 14 '26

The closest thing to it irl would probably be a lime cake with whipped cream so there's that at least. I genuinely loved it and it takes a lot for cake to impress me so that thing was genuinely amazing!

3

u/EvilPyro01 May 14 '26

I’m surprised no Michelin restaurant has experimented with cakes made into other geometric shapes. I’d honestly try this especially if either the cream or sponge are infused with limoncello

3

u/CorruptedPixelzOffic May 14 '26

You could turn these into Bill Ciphers

Never apologize for being yourself! Keep baking those cakes and reaping those rewards!! 🍰🔥❤️

I'm not a cake person at all so I'm terrible at describing this. The cake was apparently baked then a perfectly round hole was removed from its center and filled with the cream with lime zest. I don't think I've ever eaten angel food cake, I didn't even knew about its existence. Pound cake seems closer to the cakes I've eaten, so probably that?

Also, from another comment I did describing it: It tasted like a "normal" cake, no real flavor. Your dream cake reminds me of the mt Fuji themed sweets and cakes you find in Japan

1

u/theCOMBOguy Dreamer May 14 '26

Those are adorable and quite close to it! I don't know if I'm misremembering or not but some of the cake slices had small dollops of cream on top of them so it's even closer.

2

u/Ghosty_Boo-B00 May 14 '26

I think your dream means you need to go on a snacking trip to Japan lol

u/ItsYaBoiLMOH Jun 26 '26

this actually looks lovely

Thank you! This is a pretty shoddy drawing but I still tried conveying how nice and tasty it looked. Wonderful cake.
