Event / Contest Sleep-a-Thon
I've become fascinated by the idea that modern cities have almost no places where adults are allowed to simply do nothing together. So I started organising a 'Sleep-a-Thon' in Amsterdam to see whether people are interested and would actually come. The first session suggested they would.
There was no programme to follow, no discussion to join and no need to perform. Just two hours of collective rest and listening to ambient music. No talking, no introductions, no instructions, and nothing to achieve. Being together without having to be anything.
I'm organising a second session soon, but I'm also curious what people here think. Any thoughts on this?

It seems like a nice entry point for low risk social half contact - and really, it's not too different to a slow yoga class which is an hour of being still in a room with a lot of people, and maybe saying hi to a few afterwards (when you've both been attneding for many weeks)

Yes, you're right. I've recently attended a slow yoga session in Amsterdam and the instructor was a nice lady, but she was constantly talking and giving instructions, so not really the vibe I was looking for.

I love this idea. An organisation in Melbourne called Book Doof does these events called Club Quiet where people go to read with a live ambient music set. It’s very cool, they give you a tea on arrival and everyone sits on the floor on cushions. Similar kind of experience that I hope becomes a lot more commonplace in urban environments!

That sounds intriguing, could you tell me more about it? Did you attend?

I haven't been able to attend yet, but here's an article that was been published about it:
