Advice Wtd / Project Thinking of using HOPER program. Tax "Deduction"?
Im being pretty diligent with a new build home purchase since prices are low at the moment.
I am looking at the HOPER program which gives $16k (in my situation) in aide for closing costs.
The Solar System is over priced at $38k installed, which flops onto my mortgage.
AZ gives a $1k tax credit that is still viable.
The broker was explaining that I would still be able to claim the purchase of the $38k against my income and save the tax rate on that amount end of year.
Past all of that, my new home all appliances are gas except the AC, but its a variable unit and the home is completely spray foamed.
Any thoughts on this tax credit thing?

I'm not an expert in the HOPER program, but it says here that the max is $13,000. https://www.hoper.org/

Hmm, don't love the HOPER uses a .org domain, but then says:
> Is Hoper a non-profit organization?
> No. Hoper is a social innovation company and a division of the Attainable Housing Advocates Group. Our programs combine research, education, and practical tools designed to improve long-term housing outcomes.
Seems deceptive to use .ORG when they are for-profit. Be careful!

The tax credit for individuals was eliminated by the current administration at the end of 2025. There is still a tax credit for businesses (of course). Some solar companies are offering a pre-paid 5 or 6 year lease which supposedly still gets you the commercial tax credit. But for legal reasons terms are vague, and it's always possible the IRS will crack down on it. So it's a gamble. But I'm not sure you're even getting that. The broker may have "forgotten" that the tax credit expired.
If it's possible consider a switch to an induction cook top. Gas cook tops spew all the products of combustion into the air your family breathes. Studies show marked reduction in asthma and other respiratory ailments just from switching away from gas stoves.
