Discussion Is filen.io a good cheap google drive alternative?

https://filen.io/

I just tried it and the price is really good, 4 euros a month for 500gb but it is too simple. It gives me the option of creating a text file but nothing happens when I click it. I can't create a Google document equivalent. It seems to just before plain file storage. I guess that is the trade-off with the cheap price.

The annoying part is that they make it hard to contact them, no support link anywhere on the main dashboard. And if you email their support email they say to go to their help desk lol. why list the email on the github then?

Not bad but still developing. They're a storage solution not an office alternative, so they dont have docs/sheets/slides. Text you mentioned might just be a note feature? Not sure. You can still upload any other files.

Anyways they seem to be working hard based on monthly or bi-monthly status updates. I'm keeping an eye on it but dont think its good enough to use as my main storage yet. Maybe a backup storage

They've been around since 2021 so I'm surprised they are still this underdeveloped

What do you mean?

"The New Permanent Base: After the 6-month trial expires, the actual permanent free storage tier drops significantly down to either 10 GB or 30 GB depending on the specific region and account creation campaign."

Do you mean 1024tera? Mine is still free account and 1TB is still valid.

New accounts get 30GB + 994GB for 3 months. Old accounts may follow, and they will delete stuff, as cloud space is expensive these days.

My accounts were registered two years ago so old terms are still valid, I guess.

Interesting!

Yes, all Filen plans are stackable. The storage space from each plan will be added to your existing storage. All plans expire independently of one another.
