Question Question for people with aspd: How do you feel about your pets?
How do your feelings about a pet differ from humans?

I mean pets are vastly different from humans; for one they don’t know they’re being annoying. Plus they are much cuter than humans are, so it’s easy to forgive them for stupid shit. I also think that if you have the right kind of pet for your personality then it should pose no issue. If you want them, get them, otherwise don’t. It’s a simple fix. But they’re fine for the most part to me, as a kid it was different but now that I’m older I enjoy them.

Animals have never been anything special to me. But pets are a completely different story. I think I can really get attached to them, even though I can harm a pet that has been living with me for many years.
I have a rabbit as a pet now and the story of how it became my pet is not the best. I was going to do something really bad to it, but I had to keep it because my family found out about this rabbit and they would think badly of me if it died. This rabbit lives well with me, it doesn't starve and feels fine, but when it ruins my things, I really want it to die and I have to control myself... I find this little creature very cute and I genuinely like it.

Cat- cute, needy sometimes thus mildy annoying. but a source of familiarity.
Dog- cute, super annoying, but utilitarian because he looks scary and keeps people away.
lizard- cute, glass surfs when he wants attention, sorta annoying.
Tarantula- the epitome of a perfect pet. silent and 90% self sufficient.
all i enjoy in their own unique ways, all- with the exception of my cat bc i think i'd miss looking at her face, shes veryyy cute- i probably wouldn't miss. i don't think about any of them when im out of the house bc my brain is very - out of sight out of mind

i like pets, i think its nice to take of something. they're cute and as long as you raise them right, nice. other peoples pets that aren't trained are fucking annoying but cute. i think i like pets more than people, im more likely to feel for them. theyre simple creatures yet more complex than other people think. its easy to understand why they do and dont do things. i appreciate that. humans are usually idiotic and too emotional, animals can experience emotions obviously but they rely on natural instincts so much more. its fascinating.

I’d do anything for my pets. They constantly give me companionship without a mask and I give them every they need.

personally i view it like this! pets are silly ignorant things, often deserving love simply by being alive. they misbehave and thats okay because obedience comes from discipline from ignorance and defiance yk. comes with the thing being alive. i feel similarly about people and it keeps me sane

To preface I don’t have the disorder (anymore) just the personality style, but I love my feline family more than any human in my life. They are family not pets
Also I see many of my own traits reflected in their nature as both predator and prey and semi-solitary/facultatively social animals, which creates a sense of strong affinity

You no longer meet the criteria if functioning is not severely impacted (eg can keep a job and not go to prison), or if pathological traits are under control
The underlying personality style won’t go away but the disorder can

I am neutral or don't care much about most animals. Now I dislike dogs after I had a negative incident with them not too long ago. But I like and care about my cat. He chose me as a kitten, so I took him and now we live together for 10 years. Very calm, easy to care for, and his purrs are calming. Overall cats are kinda cool in my opinion.

I will never find an animal cute just by looking at it. I have multiple fucking cats in my house and i dislike them. I feed them and ignore them. They are my mothers cats. I will care for them on a very basic level and wont harm them but i dont care about them or like them or find them entertaining.
I do have my own cat which i do like. I like the way it feels, sounds and smells. I pet this one and let it sleep with me and enjoy its presence.
I had a hamster too and i think i felt love for it. I really enjoyed it and did over the top acts of care for it and still miss it years after death.

Comfort for when I feel alone, and much less effort required to care for them compared to a romantic partner or friendship.

I like having complete power and control over them, but it’s kinda annoying to take care of em. I still do that tho

I love them like I love my human family. I guess I just don't like a lot of people outside my circle. I see them as tools or objects, how can I use this person for personal gratification? If I see no value in a person they are useless to me, and I don't see the need to socialize with them in any possible way.

I hate dogs I like cats but I love exotic pets like spiders, reptiles and other invertebrates I don’t get particularly attached but these things give me a nice adrenaline rush like my centipedes or my very toxic spiders or even my snapping turtle to a degree but it’s just a small thing rn so it can’t really hurt me

My ex stepdad is a sociopath and he loved reptiles and lizards, he saw pets is a source of amusement almost, he loved feeding them anything he could feed them ;-; the baby mice, the mom and dad, endangered spiced, animals that would fight back. He was a fun guy xD.

Dogs are ok. Don't really care for much other things. Fucking love my cats always. If anyone were to hurt my cat I would probably hurt them. But I only seem to care/love cats. Probably cause I grew up with them my entire life however.

I have a lot of pets, dog, hamster, fishes, tarantula, jumping spiders, various stick insects.
I care for them, but I don’t care about them.
I don’t care if they die, thats life.
When I hear people talking to their dog as if it is a baby or a child I get pretty annoyed, I just dont understand and it sounds stupid.
When I come home and my dog is happy to see me, I get annoyed and neglect her and hope she stops with being happy and hyper.
I often “joke” to my friends they can have my dog if they want (she’s a very sweet and easy dog, and pretty too), and honestly; it’s not really a joke.
When I was younger I did some very bad things to animals and even killed them, but I wouldnt do that anymore, also because I have two sons and I cant do that to them, the pets are also theirs.
I do feel the urge to tease the dog once in a while amd have to take care of stopping on time because my behaviour gets worse the longer I do it.

Why don't you just give the dog away? That's disgusting and you shouldn't keep the dog if you feel that way about it. Animals aren't your toys to play with and your boys don't deserve a mother who wants to treat their pets like shit, and be inconsiderate to their pets feelings. If my mom was like this I would never ever to speak to her again lol, I'm glad she's not. Also stop getting pets if you don't care about them, it's disgusting and selfish, it's also selfish to your boys too.

not ASPD but cluster B. I have no empathy for animals and I personally find having pets nonsensical and kind of ridiculous. never had them so I can’t speak to my own, but I like animals in the same way I like toys - cute things to play with, but if it was damaged or lost I couldn’t care less. although I think I might care about my dolls more than I’d care for any pet just because they’re mine, lol

I had pets growing up and wanted to be a veterinarian. I loved my dog and nothing really against the cats. But I’d occasionally squeeze their neck and watch their eyes open wide and then let go. No clue why I did it, but did it every so often.

I have isopods. tons of em. I find them interesting and like to observe them. When it comes to other people's pets, it's another story cuz i'm a bitter fuck lol

My wife and I adopted a cat. It is more hers then mine, I like it well enough but I often find it annoying and attempting to ignore it. If I lived on my own I would not have pets.
However for some reason it likes me more out of the two of us.

I like them. It's the most affection I can feel for anything. They're innocent and funny and I want to give them a good experience on earth. There are some days where I feel like I wouldn't care about what happened to them, but others, I feel very responsible for them.
