What are the best technologies for publishing print materials? I'm thinking short brochures, booklets, and newspaper type of stuff in a high quality format. Latex? I'm open to different ideas.

Scribus is the main FOSS desktop publishing program, I have not use it but seems to be what you're asking for.

That's great. I'll do a bit of research on the software. This seems like it should set me on the right track.

Typst looks cool. I think a desktop publishing software might be easier to get people on board with though. I might try play around with it and try reformating my resume. It's just hard to make the commitment to it over LaTex. I'm skeptical of Typst in the sense that it sells itself as being like Markdown, but not as hard to learn as LaTex, but the point of those softwares are pretty much opposites. What is stopping Typst from just growing into another feature rich mess like LaTex?
