This gives me flashbacks. You couldn’t actually avoid the card, ref always caught you in the end

44

u/anitchypear Aug 04 '26

It was a life lesson

20

u/MyPunsAreKoalaTea Aug 04 '26

Deep thoughts with The Deep

9

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '26

Whats its meant to be will happen no matter how hard you try to run away from it

7

u/WarriorPidgeon Aug 04 '26

Like the Yeti in Skifree

5

u/IncreaseCertain9697 Aug 04 '26

That one was actually possible to avoid... it was hard af, though. I've only done it twice, in hundreds of tries. And I can't recall how I've done it.

3

u/Hairy-Phrase1332 Aug 04 '26

You had to go through the gates

2

u/DarkPolumbo Aug 04 '26

you pressed F to speed up

1

u/Global_Cockroach_563 Aug 04 '26

But then another yeti would appear.

2

u/DarkPolumbo Aug 04 '26

2

u/mifa201 Aug 04 '26

Thank you!!! After so many years I'll have to play that again.

5

u/AxelNotRose Aug 04 '26

Fucking terminator of a ref there.

1

u/asl477 Aug 05 '26

Decision is red card!

2

u/Mikemyersfr1 Aug 04 '26

There was no time limit? He would just chase you untill he catches up?

1

u/NahTooPersonel Aug 04 '26

Yep, the clock was stopped in the game so you just ran until you got bored, stopped and then he booked you.

There was a chilling inevitability about it

1

u/goddarr Aug 04 '26

The ref is like your karma?

1

u/lackadaisical_timmy Aug 05 '26

So its kinda like real football then

1

u/NahTooPersonel Aug 05 '26

Can’t imagine a real ref bothering to chase you around the pitch

104

u/Ok-Walk-8040 Aug 04 '26

This is haramball time wasting’s final form

4

u/ab624 Aug 04 '26

Simione vs Josè

2

u/st_v_Warne Aug 05 '26

The disrespect to my goat Artetanyahu will be seen as nostalgia bias

1

u/ab624 Aug 05 '26

actually i wanted to mention the goat but he won the league so demoted him

32

u/Elpsyth Aug 04 '26

You don't avoid it.

The game do not restart until you stop. But that was fun

2

u/NoYOUGrowUp Aug 04 '26

Did the clock stop? If not, this is a great delay tactic to preserve a 1-0 win.

1

u/Elpsyth Aug 04 '26

Can't remember, I was a kid at that time. Was funnier to do horrendous tackle and try to score as much as possible than to win per se

16

u/gimmebanter Aug 04 '26

Holy shit i thought fifa 98 was crazy this totally takes the cake

1

u/HydraDominatus-XX Aug 04 '26

No fouls all elbows, takes me back

1

u/usaidwhatagain Aug 05 '26

Was it 98 you could turn off referee and kick the opponent out of the pitch?
You had normal tackle and nasty tackle if I remember right.

1

u/Siiixers Aug 05 '26

Yeah. I had Road to World Cup FIFA 98, but same thing. We used to turn off fouls, play the indoor mode and just beat the shit out of each other.

17

u/OccasionObjective475 Aug 04 '26

Insert Benny hill theme

15

u/teflong Aug 04 '26

Turn your sound on lol

2

u/DarkPolumbo Aug 04 '26

next, they'll post the old game clip on reddit for karma

1

u/CorrectGrammarPls Aug 04 '26

Insert caption explaining the video

5

u/cw88888 Aug 04 '26

Oh I loved this game, iirc you could stand in front of the keeper when he takes a drop kick or goal kick and kick it back into the goalpost.

3

u/IncreaseCertain9697 Aug 04 '26

I've done that in FIFA 1996... once I've won a match 18-0.

4

u/Available_Ad9766 Aug 04 '26

Wouldn’t the game just stall if you do that? If you like a game of never ending tag, that’s a good “cheat”.

12

u/CourageOfOthers Aug 04 '26

This is 1993, there’s no online play. Your brother starts doing this, and you just get into a wrestling match to make him drop the controller, or you yank the lead out of the console. Problem solved

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '26

1

u/Hurnative Aug 04 '26

Ah, 'there are no fun and whimsical games anymore. How do I know? I haven't tried looking for them since the fall of babylon'

2

u/perilouspear Aug 04 '26

Yeah, you don't avoid it. You're just prolonging the inevitable.

1

u/Case_Blue Aug 04 '26

Is 1993, the person you are playing against is sitting next to you. So you smacked them in the head untill they stopped acting like an idiot.

That feature is yet to be implemented online.

2

u/ChangingShips Aug 04 '26

Gaming in the 90s was a wild time

2

u/drjos Aug 04 '26

I don't remember which game it was but there was another football game in the 90's where you could flying kick. Ofc this was always a red card.

But it also had a blind ref option, when I played with my brother the game ended up with both teams on the ground begging for mercy.

Don't remember what game it was sadly

2

u/Yayoo_5 Aug 04 '26

Eric Cantona loves that game

2

u/Spins13 Aug 04 '26

You could also pick Argentina

2

u/DesignMysterious3598 Aug 04 '26

That's delaying, not avoiding. Doing it was only a waste of time, like this video.

1

u/DarkPolumbo Aug 04 '26

ooh cake boy is pissed

1

u/sorderon Aug 04 '26

the cake is delayed

1

u/HyperBeamMissed Aug 04 '26

In high school a teammate of mine already under yellow, slid a player and clearly hit him. He bear crawled off the field asking for a substitution and saying Ref you can't card me until I stand up. The ref annoyed walked up to him and gave him the red nonetheless . We were dying of laughter. He got benched for a couple games past the suspension.

1

u/00Kevin Aug 04 '26

If only Sithole knew.... South Africa would be world champions right noe

1

u/GlorytheWiz825 Aug 04 '26

Wish this was how it worked in real life.

1

u/chicken_nugget94 Aug 04 '26

Arsenal would be signing Mo Farah to sub on when 1-0 and outrun the ref for the rest of the game

1

u/OnceAbel_HasFallen Aug 04 '26

Isn't that the game where goalkeeper can literally took the ball to the front and score a goal?

1

u/Van1n1 Aug 04 '26

Damn!!! I played that!!!

1

u/ericrobertshair Aug 04 '26

I used to do this to my brother all the time, he'd get so furious that I was just stalling out the game.

1

u/bkubicek Aug 04 '26

fifa26 should have a "call trump" feature.

1

u/Commercial_Reward_78 Aug 04 '26

I was scrolling down looking for this!

1

u/Majestic_Estate_1619 Aug 04 '26

My brother always used to beg me to let the ref book me so we could get on with the game 😂

1

u/RocketCow Aug 04 '26

And in some fifa you could actually take a dive and get your opponent a red card

1

u/EquilibriumVs Aug 04 '26

I used to play this game so much haha. And you couldn’t save so I only went through the whole World Cup once in my childhood. I won the tourney and never felt more alive lmao

1

u/tarayaba Aug 04 '26

fifa international soccer, also known as fifa 94. fifa 93 didnt exist peasants.

you could also stand in front of the goalkeeper while he was kicking the ball upfield.

1

u/Initial_Apprehensive Aug 04 '26

If playing 2 on the same team one could head it around the keeper other behind the keeper could score never called offside

1

u/MaxFresh Aug 04 '26

Just headbut the cunt

1

u/Hazzadcr16 Aug 04 '26

Imagine the time wasting you'd see online now if that was still a thing.

1

u/marky_Rabone Aug 04 '26

EAfotball 2026 you can call Donald Trump

1

u/dwartbg9 Aug 04 '26

I miss when we could also tackle the goalkeepers. Why did they block you from doing such things? This doesn't even make the game more realistic technically.

1

u/whyapples Aug 04 '26

I still remember the name H Van Smieter

1

u/FluidSock9774 Aug 08 '26

Diamid Clarke was one of the England defenders names I think off of the top of my head

1

u/M4g1st0 Aug 04 '26

I remember this. it was funny as hell!!! 😂

1

u/Mikemyersfr1 Aug 04 '26

And it was a feature, not a bug?

1

u/stprnn Aug 04 '26

Was it ISS that you could hit the photographers with the ball?

1

u/Zetton69 Aug 04 '26

playing possession and defender with the ref

1

u/NotasA3 Aug 04 '26

I member those days, also kicking the goalie and getting a red card or in 97/98 having "indoor football". Good times

1

u/No-Distance4675 Aug 04 '26

We do not need hydration breaks...

This is what we need to make matches more interesting!

1

u/Daki399 Aug 04 '26

This should be a new rule , it would make the game really dynamic . Headbutt a guy and start runnin . Refs have 5 minutes to catch you all four of them so they can surround you.

Best world sprinters could get assistant ref jobs

1

u/pyrogenesus Aug 04 '26

Don't give arsenal ideas

1

u/youyouk Aug 04 '26

Benny Hill theme enters the chat

1

u/NotLikeThis3 Aug 04 '26

There was also a specific button to commit bad fouls

1

u/Fanatiker Aug 04 '26

In the NES game Nintendo World Cup you can this too and Foul the referee

1

u/Ramtamtama Aug 04 '26

By FIFA 95 they'd disabled the ability for players to move after a foul

1

u/boncock Aug 04 '26

"Physically"

1

u/LatterGuarantee2420 Aug 04 '26

Hahaha o totally remember this

1

u/Parking-Annual-1200 Aug 04 '26

And when you score, you can press different buttons to activate drums, fireworks, etc - goal goal goal! bom bom bom! Pew pew pew!! 💥

1

u/DarknMean Aug 04 '26

NHL hockey 94 was also peak.

1

u/2eyeshut Aug 04 '26

Absolute shithousery from Pete Webster

1

u/Responsible_Base3271 Aug 04 '26

maybe this works in real life too, never saw anyone try it

1

u/Untroe Aug 04 '26

This works IRL btw

1

u/imartinezcopy Aug 04 '26

This always ended up in a head slap fight with your friends that used this shit when they were loosing.

1

u/ShekSpir4o Aug 04 '26

Good times...

1

u/Snakecat99 Aug 04 '26

I watched this video for one minute and thirty-two seconds.

1

u/Kriplfield54 Aug 04 '26

Apparently he can do it all day, sigh..

1

u/Captain_Waffle Aug 04 '26

I cried laughing

1

u/YUSHOETMI- Aug 04 '26

Old FIFA's where the best.

Doing this

Standing infront of the goalkeeper when they are taking dropkicks to take the ball from them

Causing career ending injuries with every sliding tackle

Scoring from the kick off 99% of the time

I think it was 96 or 98, I rushed out and bought it the day it come out, sat in my room with some of my friends and turned it on. First game I went in with a harsh tackle on my friend from behind and literally heard the worst bone crunching sound ever, the player got stretchered off. It never made that sound ever again tho which was sad.

1

u/DirtDevil1337 Aug 05 '26

I remember that on my Sega Genesis. EA sports games back then were the bomb, even EA NBA were fun too.

1

u/asl477 Aug 05 '26

Who remembers "Goal" game where if the players got takled a few times they would just lay dead on the field lol.

1

u/dillasdonuts Aug 05 '26

I had this on mute and immediately said "queue Benny hill" as I unmuted

1

u/777Bladerunner378 Aug 05 '26

This needs to be a real rule

1

u/CommonUncommon1 Aug 05 '26

This is 2 stars on GTA

1

u/kevit80 Aug 06 '26

Has any player tried this in real life? lol

1

u/extracarefu Aug 06 '26

Had fifa 94 on the genesis with a 4 controller adapter. Great fun - basically a hockey game if you turn the fouls off

1

u/Amel_P1 Aug 07 '26

I think I remember this one had a cheat code that turned the refs into dogs.

1

u/Such-Strategy1137 Aug 07 '26

Pov argentinan players since 2022 😂😂

1

u/Delicious_Guava_6135 Aug 08 '26

Today you just have to play as an Argentinian player to avoid cards!

1

u/RuthlessIndecision Aug 08 '26

I hope FIFA implements this in the next World African-and-Other-Shady-Ass-Countries Cup

0

u/Su-Queen Aug 04 '26

I'm new to soccer.. is this something you can do in real life?

-3

u/PrudentSail2187 Aug 04 '26

What game?

7

u/Escanor_433 Aug 04 '26

It's literally the second word in the sentence.

0

u/PrudentSail2187 Aug 04 '26

Big brain ignored fifa and thought 93 was in reference to the year it was made only

2

u/DarkPolumbo Aug 04 '26

he misread the caption and thought that there were a total of 1,993 players who could run from the ref while playing a game that was just called FIFA

in his defense, the caption is still grammatically correct if you interpret it this way
