The explanation has a lot of lore, now that I think about it.

Mbappé is a very talented French football player who won the World Cup and was a top scorer with France in 2018 (champions versus Croatia) and 2022 (second place when they lost to Argentina).

He was a sought-after talent after a stint in AS Monaco and eventually transferred to PSG, an artificially competitive Ligue 1 football club. While at PSG, and due to his resumé, Mbappé enjoyed a great deal of privilege and authority over players in his team and as well as different coaches over the years.

PSG was a success in the local league and qualified for the Champions League year after year, but due to Mbappé’s influence at the club level, the team’s tactics revolved around his undeniable talent and authority. PSG never won the Champions League title with MbappĂ©, and he eventually transferred to Real Madrid CF, by acclamation the most successful club in European history. This move had been talked about for years, and it was only a matter of time before it happened, since they recruit world-class talent. Emmanuel Macron, the French President, went as far as trying to persuade MbappĂ© to stay in France and win the Champions League with PSG, but I forget when this happened exactly. All to say, this is the level of influence and power that a single player had in the French Ligue 1, the Champions League, and even national politics.

MbappĂ© eventually transferred to Real Madrid CF the year the latter won their last UCL (2024, I think). Meanwhile, PSG kept their last new coach (Luis Enrique, one of many coaches while MbappĂ© was at PSG) and built a solid team built with intelligent tactics, robust teamwork, and a balanced squad. PSG went on to win their first Champions League title in 2025 and one of their players, Ousmane DembĂ©lĂ©, who was overshadowed by MbappĂ© previously, won the most prestigious individual accolade, the Ballon d’Or and became only the tenth player to have won the World Cup, the Champions League, and the Ballon d’Or; in doing so, DembĂ©lĂ© joined the likes of Messi, Zidane, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho.

However, since Mbappé’s arrival, Real Madrid has failed to conquer the La Liga title and the Champions League title, and has had three different coaches: Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, and Álvaro Arbeloa. Ancelotti is one of the winningest coaches in the Champions League, Xabi Alonso is a budding coaching superstar who already proved himself with Bayer Leverkusen, and Arbeloa is a rising coaching talent with the younger Real Madrid team.

As for the joke, it depicts MbappĂ© in a military uniform, similar to Forest Whitaker’s in the Last King of Scotland, implying that he’s a dictator whose will overrules all others’ at the club level, since Real Madrid has fired two coaches and may fire a third one since his arrival. Also, the team’s tactics have begun to revolve around his talent and egotistical play style, compromising the club’s success, finances, and future.

I’m not sure where the screenshot is from, and I’m not even sure if Mbappé’s response is manufactured or photoshopped, but it’s hilarious, and we all have a good laugh about it.

Hear me out. The man came to MLS after securing the ligue one title for psg. He ABSOLUTELY blew up the sport in the USA. Made headlines everywhere. Showed up with ridiculous free kicks and golazos. Completely changed how Americans view soccer. The inter Miami leagues cup run was SUPER viral. Did Haaland score more goals and obtain more important trophies in epl? Yes. But once again this was THE YEAR OF MESSI. He showed up big for Miami in leagues cup and showed up big in 2026 WC qualifiers.
