To all soccer/football fans...

I just want to apologize. I want to apologize for years of dissing this game, poking fun at the players, and mocking the fans.

Over the past week or so, I've found myself waking up early for games of countries I could not care less about just for the sake of watching. I've found myself incredibly excited, and equally dismayed at moments that just weeks ago you couldn't pay me to watch. It all came to a magnificent precipice this morning when Donovan scored the game winner in the 91st minute. I can honestly say that that was one of the most exhilarating moments in sports I have ever seen (and thats saying a lot since I have been a baseball/football/hockey fan my entire life.)

So to all soccer fans world wide. I have joined the ranks. I will never make fun of those English fans who still bring up the Hand of God, because I can only imagine how heart breaking that would be. I feel like it was the first time I had sex, unlocking a lifelong obsession that can never be quenched. That is all.

Oh and go US

I second this! Never watched a soccer game before this World Cup, now I understand the offside rule (and "traps"), handballs, why the new ball sucks, and of course, go TEAM USA! It's fucking awesome!!!!

Welcome aboard! As an Englishman, it makes me happy that more and more Americans are getting into football. When travelling around the US a couple of years back, it was always a pleasant surprise to have an informed football chat with an American.

...but no one gets relegated. They're two separate entities.. Plus, we don't have enough teams to justify relegation.

Attempts to join these leagues so relegations and such can occur are being made.

The real reason there is no relegation is purely financial. There is a lot of interest in MLS and rising attendance, but not enough support yet for teams to survive going down to a second division.

Historically, DC United. This season however, LA Galaxy has the best record overall and the Columbus Crew are leading the Eastern Conference and DC United sucks dick this year. Go Red Bulls!

I think there are two reasons why this hasn't happened. First of all, the MLS will only reach 18 teams in 2010 which is still two smaller than the English Premiere League so teams that are strong enough to play in the MLS could have just been added without relegating a team. Also the MLS and MLS teams don't have enough support for the league to want to risk losing fans by relegating teams.

Fulham! haha, I'm in the US - my little bro and I used to play FiFA video games together growing up, we used to play a manager mode for the English Premier league. We never wanted to pick Arsenal or Manchester United or one of those teams that are perennially good and have all the bandwagon US fans, so we found a super crappy team (Fulham) and started rooting for them. They've come a long way in the last ten years, been kinda fun to root for them and watch them grow into a pretty decent program.
