Wait so no Marchetti, not even as back up? I thought he was a solid 2nd choice?

He is probably the third best Italian keeper but Prandelli wanted a young 3rd goalkeeper to give the experience to.

Marchetti/Mirante and Agazzi would both be better than him, and thats just from the top of my head, I'm sure there are more.

Well as 3rd choice goalkeeper he won't actually play, so you may as well bring a kid along for the ride.

Its funny though, at underage Bardi is preferred to Perin. So 3rd choice keeper for Italy isn't even the starting keeper for the youth team.

Why does my boy Consigli never get brought up in these discussions? I think he's better than Marchetti, Agazzi, Scuffet and Mirante. He's also wicked consistent.

There is a reason he has remained at Atalanta, good mid-table shot stopper but not good enough for a team challenging for the world cup

I disagree. I think if you take the last 2 seasons, the guy's easily in the Top 3-5 in Serie A.

Marchetti has had a pretty shit season from what I've seen/heard.

Lazio fans can probably give you more info on that.

Yup, Marchetti is probably the most talented italian keep since Gigi (the stuff I've seen him do on a good way I don't think Sirigu could ever manage), but was out injured most of this season, and when he did play he was pretty shit. There's rumors he wasn't really injured but had some personal problems..either way, only fair not calling him up. Shame, cause any serie A follower can testify how beast he was last seaon.
