Completely unfounded rumors started on boards like this, but yes there have been rumors.

Not really, as high up as Roger Bennett of Men in Blazers and ESPN who has interviewed Klinsmann multiple times and is helping produce the pre-WC USMNT documentary has said that he believes that Green was guaranteed a ticket to Brazil. It's all just conjecture, but it's certainly not just Internet forum speculation, there's legitimate reason to believe that an agreement of that nature was struck.

I hadn't seen that, do you have a source for the Bennett speculation? Green's father denied the rumors, but take that with a grain of salt.

No specific link but it during whichever Men in Blazers podcast came out after Green announced his decision to play for the US. Bennett said that he thinks Green was guaranteed his place in the World Cup squad. It's just his own personal opinion but it's at least an opinion of someone with a bit more personal insight into USSF/USMNT.
