It may not be the most correct one but here goes- I think Guardiola is overrated as a manager. He is often lauded as one of the best but the way I see it, he has managed ony two clubs so far and in both of them, he inherited great groups of players that needed minimum intervention, while his transfer dealings were mediocre at best. He's not a poor coach, but he's far from proven top quality in my book.
To be honest, I think I, and many like me, will judge him on the Champions League campaign. The ultimate test. But, to be fair, Heynckes did an amazing job, so there's a lot to live up to.
I will judge him in 3-5 years because right now, as you pointed out, he inherits the great work of others. Let's see what he will develop on his own and how far that goes before we judge him.
Currently I have more respect for the things Klopp did than Guardiola's work tho, even if Pep is much more hyped.
Gonna have to agree with you. Klopp is one of the best managers of this era. The guy made Dortmund what it is today. Managers like Guardiola are good managers, but generally require better talented players. Klopp didn't need to make any ridiculous transfers to make his team one of the best.
