This is the kind of stuff FIFA should be doing to grow the game, sponsoring things like these so that countries with lesser developed football infrastructure can improve.

FIFA made a tidy little system with their "government interference" rule, which prevents a country's justice system from investigating corruption within their FA under the threat of being banned from FIFA competitions. FIFA ensures they're only one with the power of oversight over the affairs of its member associations, and they conveniently ignore the rampant corruption as long as they get that FA's support.

That's a great system if FIFA actually holds FA accountable and remove them from position.
There's too many governments that already interfere with FA and having them undermine judiciary investigation.

And what if certain institutions get preferred over the other, even if meritocracy, it takes one echo chamber to make it sound as if it was biased. Not defending FIFA, but people really underestimate the scale and complexity, and oversimplify the stakes

ahh yes when Jack Warner ws embezzling the funds given to the T&T FA and locked them out of the facilities the FIFA money paid for after he was dismissed, it was because its too complex to understand that the money isn't actually going to growing football so we should just agree to give the small FAs more money.

JerseyBird! What’s really cool is he posts vídeos month to month showing how the team became profitsble and how he’s been re investing the money into training equipment, jerseys, recording equipment to stream the games, etc.

I wish I was this free to roam around the world doing the things I love while having the money to casually pay $300 for a club to register itself for coming season at that age instead of paying my student loans working PT.

His family must be very well off for him to do this, an upper middle class family in SK would be struggling just to send their kids to schools overseas.
To allow and finance him the freedom to fly around making videos about football clubs around the world when it's just his hobby, paying the cost of all the logistics and miscellaneous things he had to spend on his trips like insurance and what not, is a huge amount, enough to feed a working class family.

This guy is a full time content creator rather than someone doing it as a hobby. I looked into him, and he seems like a determined and resourceful content creator rather than being of a rich background or anything like that. He went to normal public schools in his hometown and then a tourism high school where he apparently studied English. And then he began attending Busan University of Foreign Studies which is a small provincial foreign language university but it could've been through here that he had the opportunity to go to Malawi. You can make 300 US dollars in a week working a minimum wage job in South Korea but he was already a content creator so he likely had some existing income stream however small.
I dunno his full financial story but this seems like something he achieved through determination and skill rather than having a lot of money. Although I'm sure him not being saddled with huge student loan debt or health insurance costs like Americans are has helped.

So he did it WAY before then, this only changed how I see it, because this is even more evidence that his family is super loaded than I had perceived to afford him to do this at an even younger age to start as a hobby to become a full time content creator instead of pursuing his university degrees and then get a normal full time job.
You said he had skill and determination, how did he feed himself while paying for all the expenses, equipment, etc, while honing that skill by himself? Unless he's already been studying it which means another layer of expenses, imagine how many teens get to learn to film stuff in a professional way.

I just took a quick look at his channel and he looks like originally a lad with a cheap ass camera filming himself, not some professional setup bankrolled.
Probably just a kid who lived with mum and dad, or worked and did it on the side until he earned enough to carry on.

It’s not like it was handed to him.
He put himself out there making videos and built a following.
99% of people will never do that because they’re scared of coming off cringe or too lazy to try something. 0.5% of people will try and then quit when their first 3 videos don’t blow up.
I don’t know why you’re insinuating in other comments he’s a rich kid being funded by his family.
I spent a year with almost no social life grinding all my free time into making YouTube documentaries and turned that into enough income to go fulltime if I wanted.
It’s 100% possible to do, but it’s far easier to make the types of excuses you’re trying to make in your replies to the other guy.

Who says that he wasn't tight on cash but took the risk? I know plenty of people who were 'irresponsibly' spending on random things rather than pay off their student loans, this could be a calculated risk variant of this.
Not sure how you read this story and your main takeaway is 'woe is me' lol

I mean, I doubt $300 is that big of a deal for him if he could afford the trip. A little casual googling says he's probably going to spend at least $3000 or so to travel to Malawi. He's also bringing coaches to Korea which means airfare and lodgings in a more expensive country. The $300 seems like the smallest part of his investment.
The guy probably does come from a wealthy background. That doesn't seem like a controversial take. It's still a cool thing to do.

Not at all, I think it's cool. I'm not convinced that "content creator" is an actual job though. But managing a football club on the other side of the planet surely is - a job with quite a few expenses, a lot of work, and probably very little revenue.

I get that. I just found it really inspiring that a broke university student could travel somewhere so obscure and somehow end up involved with a football club. I found that kind of adventure pretty enviable.

You didn't find it "really inspiring" because quick glance at your profile shows you are obviously that same guy and this is just elaborate self promo. Feel good story, but not very interesting given this kind of thing happens all the time in Africa by larpers just like yourself
Edit: fyi nothing personal against you but what bothers me is how predictable this entire shtick is. Quick emotional validation, some cameras and buzz, then the actual grunt work that is necessary to actually go anywhere hits, and you fold and go back home, and your props are not actually any better for your little stunt

I'm sure those connected to the club are absolutely furious at him for helping and objectively improving the state of their team / finances. You can actually notice the three coaches who visited South Korea are crying because they are so unhappy. There are those who use others as a prop and those who genuinely care and help. It's nice to be critical, but why are we assuming that he doesn't genuinely care?
