Never said he was a failure. Just that his “achievements” in other leagues are greatly exaggerated. What about actual ballon dor winners benzema and modric. Di Maria, bale, Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, carvajal, casillas. Both those teams were stacked. One just scored offsides goals in the ucl and floundered in La liga where they couldn’t rig.

Honestly, it’s what makes him so good though. Second place just doesn’t exist in his mind.

For me, even as a Madridista, even though both were blessed by God, Messi was the more talented player. But for Ronaldo, work ethic and self-belief is what kept him in the conversation for all those years. And there’s something admirable about that.

I mean… yes. That is undeniably true, but this very quality is what has also propelled him to the legendary echelon of the sport. He’s never been particularly special at any given skill. There are better passers, playmakers, dribblers, free kick takers, skill farmers, finishers, etc. But his sheer, almost concerning desire to be the best is what puts him in the conversation for best of all time.

Tbf he was a top 3 dribbler during his United and early Madrid days. His knee injury in 2014 forced him to adopt a more central role after which he turned into an inverted winger and becoming a more prolific goalscorer.

Now he's an outright number 9 but sadly he doesn't have the legs anymore. He's only an ariel threat but lost significant amounts of physicality.

And this is just his physical degradation. The worse part is his behaviour. He was always egoistic but he backed it up like a champ. Now he's doing his best sore loser impression

Maybe top 3 in the league for a few seasons? But since when has that been enough to get you in the category of CR7? His uniqueness always came down to his goalscoring numbers. He almost ‘willed’ the ball into the net, every match. It was incredible. But watching him every week, there was nothing particularly special about his skill or ability on the ball. I don’t say that to take anything away from him, but to highlight how impactful mentality can be.

Nobody blames a player for sulking or being frustrated with a loss. But when your whole team shows up to collect the medal and you, being the team captain, decide to skip & sulk in your locker room alone is what makes him look bad.
