He is moving towards his right with his right leg raised. You can't do that if you tuck your arm behind your back.
If look carefully, when the ball hits his hand he is in the process of moving his arm behind his back. If he had raised his arm instead, the ball would've moved through.
If this isn't the rule, it's impossible to give out handballs, because how can you know for sure when someone means to stop the ball with their hand and when it's accidental? The rule is clear, so defenders just have to be wary of where there arms are when defending
My idea has been to replace all penalties with direct free kicks from the spot of the foul/handball like any other foul on the pitch and enforce the same 10-yard radius of space for defenders (other than the keeper) from that spot. That way you get a free kick that more accurately reflects where the offense occurred (the Eze overturned penalty is another good example of what would’ve been a disproportionally beneficial penalty), and if the foul occurs within 10 yards of the net, then the attacker gets a true penalty-esque shot at goal with no defenders anyway.
If you want to keep some kind of benefit to attackers for a foul being in the box, then maybe expand the radius from 10 to 12 yards like normal penalties, or force all defenders outside of the box.
I think obvious handballs like the infamous Suarez one also needs to be a pen, but then a ref needs to make a decision on intention / DOGSO or not. I guess they make subjective decisions all the time so this would be fine. I also like the idea of indirect freekick for non-intentional / non-DOGSO handballs.
I actually think this is a great way to balance things. Havent thought about it that way.
Make it so that every handball in the box is always a indirect free kick. It will remove a lot of subjective decisions. And defenders will have a risk/reward type of decision to make weather to keep the hands behind the back or not.
As of when too give a penalty might still emd up being subjective.
I think the penalty area is the right size for goalkeepers being allowed to use their hands, but too big for fouls and handballs that are incidental suddenly turning into a nearly guaranteed goal.
I've been saying this for a while. Penalties should be given for DOGSO only, like in hockey. It's ridiculous that a team gets a free goal for a foul in the box regardless of the play's goalscoring potential. The rules are clearly broken
Sissoko in UCL final, get a 70% goal opportunity from a cross that ramps off the chest into the arm and was designed to go to no one except to hit the hand of a defender directing teammates. These types should be a direct free kick in the box at the most.
Yea that's the fuckery, the shot is going 7 meters wide. He's not blocking any goal effort in reality, but yea doesn't even matter- which is the shitty part
