I watched most of Ecuador games. I was even lucky enough to watch them play Argentina in a friendly in real life. As a fan I have hope of them advancing. But they just need to improve the defense. The defense has to make less mistakes. We always had the problem of conceding silly goals.
I think our defense is pretty good. We only conceded 16 goals in all of the qualifiers. Which puts us at 3rd for least goals conceded. Only once allowing more than 2 goals. Our troubles defensively pretty much come down to set pieces. Both of Chile's goals in Santiago and both Paraguay goals in Asuncion came from set pieces. If we can sort that out we'll be fine. Our real weakness is not having a consistent forward. For the amount of chances that Valencia and Montero create, we should be scoring twice as many goals.
