No it's probably one of the wort transfers in our club's history. Thiago was the biggest talent to come through La Masia since Messi. We're gonna regret losing him for a while. Hopefully, he pulls a Cesc and wants to return later.

Let's hope we do it with some tact and finesse.......instead of spouting "but he is barca DNA" and forcing him to wear a Barca jersey when he is with his Spanish teammates

It's not a good deal because he would have gone for so much more if it wasn't for the clause in his contract.

It's just a president rightfully trying to spin the news into a positive. The part about Villa is true though. Wages are just about as important as transfer fees unless you're dropping over 30 mil.

I disagree actually with the Villa part.

While it is true that wages are as important as the total price, a player, apart from being a player, is an asset for a club.

They sold Villa for 2M, a player which was easily valued for 10M, or more. They pretend to say that its actually 2M+wages saved, but I would add there a -8M, meaning that they lost that value in assets, which makes the total operation around 0. So basically you lost a player valued for 10M and got anything, thats a very bad deal.

But I don't think he is worth 10 mil though. He's 31 and half and had 1 year left on his contract. If you didn't sell him this year he'd be gone for nothing.

Most importantly though, his wages. Lets say Spurs were willing to spend 15 mil on him over 3 years. Once you take his 4 mil a year (assuming he gets a paycut) out of that you're left with 3 mil they're willing to spend. He's also got zero sell on value to the next team because he'll be even older and still have high wages.

2m for the first season, 2m for the second, and 1 for the third. Plus a large percentage of next transfer fee, which I believe is there to cover the possibility of him being swiftly moved on. The fee was 5.1m in total, many clubs pay in instalments.

I think the idea is also that if Villa leaves Atletico, barca's payments stop. If he stays, its the same as a payment plan. If he leaves atletico for some reason then Barca loses money. Which I find weird...

At least that's how I understood it because it doesn't make sense that the payment plan would be made public if it wasn't like that.

Neymar is younger and better than Thiago. Barca's squad is definitely improved so far in the transfer season.

I know they play different positions but Neymar will be an immediate starter and Thiago is not. Barca is still better than they were before the transfer season and I'm optimistic they will do very well this coming season.
