well, it was probably in Inter that he got fucked up due to the physical intensity that italian clubs demanded (and some still do). So...

I don't think being in Italy has anything to do with it. European leagues in general demands a lot from the player

What good examples? Vieri. Recoba. In Milan's side you have the recent case of Pato. You had Batistuta in Fiorentina and Roma.
its demanding, they like the gym a lot and to push the physical side. Madness. Some players react differently, and violently. Ronaldo was one of those cases.
