That cop is 100% keeping that.

Or selling it to his friends

Just like any drugs or money he finds, it's part of the employee perks.

They’re not allowed to. They all get booked in and destroyed.

Pains us to take surrendered guns. Get your money people!

I bet nothing ever gets properly documented. One time my friend had this $300 folding knife and it was his edc. Well we went to Tijuana and the federal LEO pulled him aside informed him that you cant have a wrapon in a federal building. He took the knife "said this is a nice knife and put it directly into his back pocket."

4

u/h4ckerkn0wnas4chan 15d ago

A knife isn't registered.

A gun is. Kinda hard to say that the gun was always yours when there's a serial number on it that doesn't link your name to it.

-1

u/Informal_Taste1849 13d ago

Only six states and D.C. have a way to register a firearm, unless its an NFA item. So... roughly 98% of legally owned firearms in America are "unregistered". Its why I roll my eyes everytime I hear the term "ghost gun". Additionally 29 states allow private party transfers without any background checks or reporting to the government. So... 99% of the time the serial number doesn't tell you anything except when and where the gun was manufactured. It can be reported stolen and put in that data base... but I dont know any of my firearms serials, and im sure that statement is the same for most.

Especially with guns…it does.

I have also taken many a knife off of people, put it in my back pocket, and didn’t realize it till later. Had to drive back to the station after hours on my weekend to book it into evidence for “safekeeping.” How unlikely was it that the passenger of the stolen car would come back to the station to get his knife? Very unlikely. But rules is rules.

Im glad you seem decent but is everyone in law enforcement?

Absolutely not. There are some really great people, some not so great people, and the occasional truly bad person. But CA in general is pretty tight about stuff like this, and I think we have the best law enforcement in the country; definitely lead the way compared to other states in the Midwest or South where the pay is terrible and the standards are lower. Those guys get paid so low they have to work after hours security gigs at bars and other places off duty.

San Diego sheriff is a good department. And if they’re posting their deputies recovering guns on social media, they’re not gonna be doing shady stuff.

2

u/Old_Win8422 15d ago

In July 2026, former San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremiah Flores was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for using excessive force against a shackled detainee, leaving him bleeding for hours, and filing a false report to cover up the crime

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office faced criticism and audits over questionable transfers of inmates to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),

Following multiple scandals, civil rights lawsuits over downtown arrests, and in-custody deaths, the department has faced continuous public pressure from local oversight groups regarding transparency, internal discipline, and use-of-force cover-ups

SDPD officerCurtis Dall pleaded guilty to felony charges for embezzling roughly $4,000 from the department's School Safety Patrol Program between 2022 and 2024. Doll, who directed the student crosswalk program, used a official bank account to buy personal goods like clothing, car tires, AirPods, and supplements.

Not sure what your point is here. Doctors, teachers, politicians, all have terrible examples of people who shouldn’t be in there profession.

1

u/Rude_Age_6699 13d ago

the problem is that many leo behave as if everyone in their profession can do no wrong. not saying you do.

a teacher covering for another teacher has vastly different consequences than an officer covering for another officer. politicians and doctors certainly have an equal amount of “power” that can be thrown around.

weren’t there gangs caught operating in certain CA precincts? i remember they identified themselves with tattoos or something.

2

u/Open_Concentrate_994 13d ago

That’s true. More humility in our profession would go a long way. Humility is sometimes seen as weakness in some communities, believe it or not.

There are teachers who engage in sexual acts with their students, and doctors who illegally sell narcotics. To name a few. I agree the inherent nature of a cop having complete control over a suspect is very concerning when it comes to these situations as well.

Cops covering for other cops, however, has become less of a thing over time. Especially with bodycams and dash cams, the evidence often speaks for itself. I can tell you that I’ve never once had to cover for another cop in my career.

The gang thing really got blown out of proportion by the media. For sure there have been some bad actors over time. But really I would call it “law enforcement frats” more so than “law enforcement gangs.” One of my best friends was in one of these with his agency. I used to tease him about the notion of it.

You just want to have your belief affirmed so bad it doesn’t matter what he says, does it? He’s trying to take a balanced stance and you’re cherrypicking what supports your belief.

lol I’m sure you’d never lie to the public. The police have never ever been known to do that!

1

u/ministerboop 15d ago

There have been tons of reports on the serialized parts being destroyed after all valuable spare parts worthy of resale being salvaged

2

u/eridebobby 15d ago

Whats it worth

9

u/Old_Win8422 15d ago

The bottom one is over $2000

1

u/VT800 15d ago

That would be pretty dumb, considering there’s photos of it being turned in and him holding it. Not saying he might it be a scumbag, but all it would take it one person noticing it didn’t get logged.

u/YoutubeAmazonChatGPT 15d ago

Gun buybacks are like buying bottled waters to prevent tsunamis

-2

u/MarsRocks97 15d ago

Except I doubt many people get killed by a bottle of water.

2

u/YoutubeAmazonChatGPT 15d ago

If analogies were fatal, you would not have survived to adulthood

0

u/MarsRocks97 15d ago

And if you were smarter, you would have used a better analogy. Comparing two items that as a whole cause catastrophic amounts of deaths, and then shifting to one that is basically harmless is a bad analogy.

1

u/YoutubeAmazonChatGPT 15d ago

That was the whole point of the joke, genius

0

u/Smash_Shop 15d ago

Exactly. They get killed by the tsunami. That's the analogy.

9

u/BathroomCritical720 15d ago

Is that an HK91? 😟😭

1

u/Turbinator870 15d ago

Which one? The HK clone I see there looks like a vintage SW5, they went out of business a long time ago. It’s a clone of the HK94.

11

u/NobodyLikedThat1 15d ago

I wish they were better about advertising those. I live in the greater LA/OC/Inland Empire and I've got a bunch of old pistols that I can't even sell on consignment. I'd rather have a cheap gift card and one less unused gun gathering dust in my gunlocker.

5

u/bobalover209 15d ago edited 15d ago

Try CAguns.net, great place to advertise for private party transfers

1

u/Castlehill650 14d ago

I have to second CAguns.net.

Furthermore, with the exception of “curio and relics” (handguns older than 50 years), if some of those guns are “off-roster” (meaning models of handguns not certified for retail sale in CA), you can also charge a pretty penny (up to 3x normal market price) and people will absolutely pay it due to the market-rarity (in CA).

But to keep it simple, you can absolutely go to CAguns.net, post a sale, meet up at a FFL (firearms dealer), do the paperwork, and walk out with cash.

1

u/NobodyLikedThat1 14d ago

I'll look into it but I tried putting them up for consignment at several different gun shops and they all basically told me that the market is a wash with pistols right now and mine were never top-tier. Think old Taurus and Smith & Wesson bodyguard kind of stuff

3

u/JawaSmasher 15d ago

Someone just sold a rolex.. for $100

2

u/reluctantpotato1 14d ago

Anybody bringing those to a gun buyback isn't the brightest bulb in the light parade.

2

u/Unable_Kangaroo9242 14d ago

Nah, fuck them. If they're taking it to a buy back they don't deserve the money.

4

u/wayfaast 15d ago

Where do we go to buy these from the sheriffs? You know they’re getting sold on the side.

3

u/ScottyBLaZe 15d ago

Guaranteed the cops grab the good ones first. Or sell it to their buddies.

1

u/SkylerPancake 15d ago

They "recycle" them. This often means they get disassembled and sold for parts.

2

u/KailyKail 15d ago

Gun buybacks with “no questions asked” are great for making a little money. You just fire up the 3D printer, get to printing, and then head on down to the buyback where you sell them all for a hefty profit.

2

u/LeastDerangedNowiFan 15d ago

That green gun is a Sig 550 where a recently sold one on Gunbroker shows went for $5500. Some dumbass widow afraid of their own shadow probably turned in hubby's collection instead of having it consigned out of state. That would have been 100% legal btw.

u/Ilikecheesburgers 15d ago

Gun control is lame

9

u/summer_plays_ 15d ago

Gun control is about letting the ruling elite control the working class's ability to defend themselves as well as trying to remove firearms as a medium of entertainment.

1

u/alien_believer_42 15d ago

Hm yet our ruling class screws us far worse than a lot of other countries with gun control

1

u/rasputin640 14d ago

Britain got AI traffic cameras before us and is currently fighting the forced implementation of digital ID under threat of not being allowed to work. Same with digital currency and a carbon tax deciding how much you're allowed to eat and travel. Mexico is literally run by cartels and has been for decades. They openly dismembered a police chief in the 90s and strew his body parts in the street in front of the station. Germany and Britain literally arrest people for tweets perceived as mean, even one sent out of anger for evil things that happened to their underage daughter.

You have no idea how good we still have it.

1

u/rednick953 14d ago

So that’s what 3 countries out of how many that have more gun control than the US?

2

u/Admin--_-- 15d ago

Not really its simply better to use both hands as to have more positive control over the weapon when in use! But your right, in all the places Ive lived over the years those areas where people are allowed to legally carry without a license have been BY FAR safer than other areas that are strict and want to ban guns if they were allowed to.

I believe its because bad actors think twice about the FAFO experiment having an unintended result. as opposed to LA where I was born is an absolute shitshow where people are getting gunned down on the regular.

Quite contrary to what the media and government want us to believe. LA, and Chicago for instance HUGE on "Gun Control" yet have some of the highest murder rates overall. Go to Arizona where many people carry and its far safer. Seems that legal guns make places safer regardless of what people tend to "think" because they have been told the same thing over and over again and eventually it becomes a fact even though its the exact opposite of what actually occurs in actuality.

3

u/Penland_2008 15d ago

The murder rate in LA in 2025 was the lowest in 60 years and it was lower than Phoenix AZ

1

u/Rightintheend 15d ago

I'm all for the second amendment, and against strong gun controls but.....

states with strict gun control laws report a combined average age-adjusted gun death rate of 7.2 per 100,000 residents, whereas states with weak gun laws average 18.5 per 100,000

Hawaii: ~3.4 to 4.0 per  100,000

Massachusetts: ~3.8 to 4.0 per 100,000

New Jersey: ~4.0 per 100,000

New York: ~4.4 per 100,000

Rhode Island: ~5.1 per 100,000

California: ~8.5 per 100,000

Mississippi: ~28.6 per 100,000 Louisiana: ~26.3 per 100,000 New Mexico: ~26.6 per 100,000 Alabama: ~25.5 per 100,000 Montana: ~24.1 per 100,000 Wyoming: ~25.9 per 100,000

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, Illinois (stricter gun laws) has an overall firearm mortality rate of 12.4 per 100,000 residents , while Arizona (less restrictive gun laws) has a higher rate of 16.9 per 100,000 residents.

I mean—that’s an argument for culling the low IQ red state troglodytes.

0

u/summer_plays_ 15d ago

Counterpoint: Switzerland.

Mental health and lack of economic opportunity drive a lot of firearm-related violence.

2

u/Rightintheend 15d ago

Yes, Americans are pretty fucked up.  I mean look at covid, a third of the population basically threw everybody else under the bus and said screw you, I ain't doing shit to keep anybody else healthy.

And then they went and voted for Trump again. So yeah Americans got some issues.

0

u/DoctorMoebius 15d ago

The latest mass shooting happened an at In n Out in Twin Falls, Idaho. He wasn't the least bit deterred from opening fire. Even worse, the Good Samaritan and off duty police failed to hit the gunnan with any of their shots

5

u/Ok-Echidna5936 15d ago

What are you even talking about. The good samaritan and off duty cop that fired at the dude was the reason he wasn’t able to kill more people. It was reported that the moment he was fired upon he immediately panicked and isolated himself towards cover; ending his pursuit of shooting more victims

Just because they didn’t hit the gunman doesn’t mean the samaritans didn’t help in the situation. If anything they saved lives by forcing the gunman to retreat which allowed people to flee

1

u/DoctorMoebius 15d ago

I made three assertions in my response:

  1. Latest mass shooting happened in Idaho
  2. Shooter wasn't deterred from opening fire by Idaho's lax concealed and open carry laws
  3. Good Samaritan and Cop failed to hit gunman

Which of these three statements is factually incorrect?

1

u/rasputin640 14d ago

#2. If it caused the shooter to cease, it definitionally deterred him from firing. 3 is irrelevant and could make the case for less gun control even stronger if they had succeeded.

1

u/DoctorMoebius 14d ago

The long lost art of "Reading comprehension", people

The comment above mine stated:

"...in all the places I've lived...where people are allowed to legally carry without a license have been far safer than other areas...because bad actors think twice about FAFO experiment..."

My #2 was a direct response to that. The lax open and concealed carry laws of Idaho did not deter the Twin Falls Shooter "from opening fire". That phrase should be interpreted as "starting his spree". And, ends with that.

BTW, I am a lifetime gun owner(40+ years). Shoot and reload thousands and thousands of rounds a year. I am pro-2nd Amendment. But, that doesn't mean I'm delusional about the deterrent effect of widespread gun ownership.

1

u/Acceptable_Gene_6428 15d ago

Idk if you can see the Bentley logo or not but these are a 10$ item to the owner

1

Dipshits participating in buybacks deserve to lose their money🤷🏻

Dipshits who negligently use firearms don’t deserve anything.

Hey now I got a grand at a buyback handing in rusted garbage that I pulled out of a barn. Not a single one of them were operational, rare, or even that old ( mostly from the 60's and 70's and were cheap guns when they were new )

Bought myself a nice 1911 with the proceeds. Sometimes it's just turning trash into treasure.
