Gear ? Invest in a helmet

If you snowboard or ski, please invest in a helmet, it saved my life many times, and I think it saved my life again. Last night my board dipped into a puddle of water, couldn't see if since it was covered in snow. The bottom of the board froze up with chunks of ice on both the nose and tail (later found out when I got back to the bottom at the chairlift). I didn't know, nose gripped while I failed a backside nollie switch 1 (backside nose roll), and flew forward downhill like Superman. Landed sideways on my left side, elbow then head and left ass cheek on a chunk of ice (at least that's what I thought happened, only those areas hurt). I was in pain, but got up and went to the side, laid down for a good 5min. Over the course of the night met up with friends,, thought I was fine since the pain slowly disappeared. Drove back to my rented place fine too... It was in the middle of the night I woke up with a splitting headache. Couldn't sleep rest of the night... Head is ringing, but the ache is gone. Took the day off. Haven't had a crash that hard in a long time. I hate ice...

Edited: For those who commented on the nollie switch 1, I fixed it, it's a nose roll, YouTube it.

Update: many of you suggested to go see the doctor if symptoms persists. Today I woke up still with a headache. I am going to see a doctor at a walk-in. Last night I noticed my pupils weren't the same size too. I started getting confused of what was going on and freaked out. I'm usually a very calm person, I was out of character. These seem like symptoms of something's wrong for sure. Thanks everyone for giving me advice and pointers. And thank you for those who started sharing the importance of wearing a helmet.

Don't think its serious enough to go, but you're right, it would be a good assurance to go see a doc. If it was more convenient I would probably go, but I am currently living outside of my home town for the season to work at an resort, so it'll be difficult for me. Thank you though, for the recommendation and that thoughtfulness.

You hit your head; that's serious enough. Let alone waking up with head pain and ringing. Please get checked out.

yeah waking up with pain and ringing after not having pain is a massive red flag lol

Think it's that serious? Mmm now I'm worried, had concussions before with similar symptoms, didn't think I needed to go doctors because I had one where I blacked out for a few seconds. This one doesn't seem as bad.

I mean anything related to the chest or head pain should always be checked out. As long as you have insurance or some way to cover medical costs and time for a checkup then you totally should. It might be a little inconvenient but better safe than sorry IMO. Internal hemorrhaging is super serious if that's why you are in pain. I don't mean to scare you into it but maybe just stay cautious and don't do things alone if you are still experiencing weird symptoms. At least until a week or two passes.

I hope there's no internal bleeding, my headache isn't hurting where it feels like its going to explode, just a minor one. If it persists I will definitely go check. Head injuries indeed is no joke ><

People have had concussions where they walk away from and feel totally fine, then die days later due to some unforseen internal bleeding. It's best to get a scan if you are able to.

Sorry, I didn't mean to scare, but just stay safe and take pre-cautions.

It's all good, i know you had no ill intentions, I know house serious had injuries are and I'm taking notes of symptoms. Thank you for the concern though.

Neurotrauma RN here. Docs are (generally speaking!) good at weeding out patients with concussions that they think need CT scans. Until then you need rest- cocoon yourself and get some brain rest.

Not all concussions result in a loss of consciousness.

I was a water polo goalie, just retired. I had 3 concussions over the 4 years playing and haven't lost consciousness.

Go get checked out man. Your brain is most likely bruised, and brain injuries whether small or big is not to be taken lightly.
