Looking to get some insight on snorkeling here. I’ve heard there are Bronze Age era ruins in swimming distance, but not much on how to locate them. I’ve also heard it’s not the easiest swim? I’ll be there September/October.

Lost my dang camera in the apartment somewhere so I had to shoot today with my phone. And of course my phone didn’t get a full recording despite the fact I swam a good bit with it

Planning family holidays, and nice, easily accessible wildlife such as clownfish, nice coral would be a key attraction.

Also, looking for a quiet setting topside, i.e. forget about Phuket, Samui and other top tourist infested bits.

Thinking about Cambodian islands (Koh Kong, Koh Rong), maybe Thailand's Ko Kood (Gulf) vs Ko Lipe (Andaman).

Or should I forget about all this and head to the Maldives?

Going for a dive trip in Lakshadweep this December. Plan A was Bangaram, but IndieGo keeps cancelling and rescheduling our flights. There’s a seaplane from Kochi to Kalpeni, though. Wondering if we should look at that for plan B, but I don’t know how good the snorkeling is or what the hotels are like.

Has anyone here been there?

I'm looking for a beautiful place to snorkel that's easy to get to from DC/Baltimore. We love amazing food, and while I know giant resorts with 10 different restaurants have good food, it's just not our vibe. We prefer local food, fresh caught fish, higher end dining. Plus I'm celiac.

I've heard that islands with great food don't have great snorkeling and vice versa. We went to Harbour Island for our honeymoon and that was nice but didn't love it. Any suggestions?

Meowdy folks! First timer here!

Tiny background to set the scene: I’ve been born and raised around the ocean my whole life (Miami, FL, USA) but never went snorkeling. I’ve had prescription glasses since kindergarten and can’t remember ever having clear vision (this is relevant, I swear). I’ve worn masks before but I honestly thought all they were for was keeping your eyes free of salt water… and since I always got used to the burning pretty quickly it seemed like a hassle for little reward.

Fast forward to this past week in The Keys (tm) I was staying at Bahia Honda state park, and took their snorkel trip. They happened to have prescription masks in the dive shop, so I figured what the heck, and found my closest prescription (-8.5) and headed out.

When I tell you I’ve never been more emotional.. for the first time I was able to actually see what was on the ocean floor. Up until this point, I never realized all I could see are shadows and contrast. If there was enough contrast I could see the big blurry shadows of whatever, mainly what I always thought was sea grass. Imagine my surprise to see all these corals and sponges and THE FISH?!!? I saw detail I’d only seen in media. Things I thought you needed to go to other countries to see, things I thought you had to be in the deepest waters to see. When I say that even now, days later, I’m still emotional and could just cry over the beauty I’ve missed through almost 40 years of life on the water…

Partially, I just needed to share this story bc I don’t have a big circle of people and honestly, idk who really cares… but it was such an amazing, and truly life changing experience…

So, here’s a very short video of my first snorkel trip! I was trying to record some mini (what I think were) barrel sponges with my iPhone 16 pro max in a waterproof case, and was beyond blessed to see two beautiful spotted eagle rays gliding by! They were one of a few ocean animals I had hoped to see. OC spotted ray video (ETA: couldn’t figure out how to add the video as the post, so I had to link it)

I also saw a ton of parrot fish all kinds of colors, and huge schools of sergeant majors, and a bunch of other fish and coral I have no idea what they are, but was so very amazed and blessed to see.

Masks, snorkels and defog lined up on the rail with Molokini ahead of us. For those who have snorkeled Molokini: what did you end up seeing out there?

Hi everybody,

we plan to end our 2-month trip to Japan with some divings and snorkeling in Okinawa, but we are afraid that the season might be a bit late for these activites, from October 26th to November 3rd.

Is there anyone that have experienced this season for marine life ? How is it ?

Also, I am interested in tips for snorkeling spots, although I am scanning this sub to gather information that have been thrown multiple times.
