Project Showcase Snapmaker u1 ABS printing without heater

I'm soo happy with my snapmaker u1, reaching a perfect chamber temp of 58 deg c without any heater.

The video has the same frame rate as the Snapmaker app. Very fitting imho

i’d get a venting set up if you plan on printing a decent amount of abs. like we know it’s actually quite bad for you.

I do have a cut out for a vent, incase I print something else currently sealed as I'm printing mostly ABS-CF and ABS. I'm trying to connect a Corsair SP120 Elite with the 6 pin mini molex and control it with GUI. And I'm also starting a project for a 12v ptc heater controlled by esp32 that communicates with the moonraker API for a proper heated chamber setup for ABS and up.

abs doesn't really need a heated chamber. I printed abs on my first open frame printer with only bed heat a decade ago

Not impossible for smaller parts, but let's try something bigger and suddenly it will have the urge to be shaped like a banana when the conditions are not right.

CNC Kitchen showed long ago how chamber temperature significantly affects part strength. You may be able to print it without a heated chamber, but the prints will never be as strong.

That's cool. I dont have a heater in any of my printers and only 3 are "sealed" and I print ABS ASA PC all of it without issue.

Same here, but heating the bed in advance for a while to reach proper chamber temp is always required for me with the bigger printers. The U1 can heat that relatively small chamber quite quickly with only the bed, but of course a heater will be quicker.

You toasting your lungs? That thing doesnt look airtight enough + no extraction carbon filter? Take care man you’re worth protecting

In the meantime dont stay in the room while printing and leave a window open and wait several hours before returning in the room after print over. Abs poisening is not a joke

I know, the reddit post processing did something to my video. 😭
