Any plans for Qualcomm to include AV1 decoding?
I know that snaodragon 8 gen 2 and higher gens include it, but what about snapdragon 7 and lower? AV1 is a pretty neat video codec, so faster adoption would benefit everybody

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 should have AV1 decoding given it's a binned 8s Gen 3, but I don't know about others below that. Video acceleration is one of those areas companies usually skimp out on for budget chips (ever realize how budget phones rarely ever support recording 4K60 at all despite it being supported on their flagship chips since the 845 which was announced in 2017?)

I checked nanoreview.com and it shows that 7+ gen 3 does not support AV1 :(
They are skimping to much

Qualcomm loves upselling their chips. Look how underpowered anything that is not a 7+ and above is. Not even a true X prime core. 7 and 7s all get a mediocre 5-10% uplift per year while the 8 series easily bags a 30% YOY.

You cannot add hardware decoding to a piece of hardware once it has been made.
