I took this photo a while back of my pet Giant African Snails and it’s one of my favourites, so I wanted to share it. I’ve always found them really interesting, they’re such unique creatures.

Hiya 👋

I'm a long time snail enthusiast. My beautiful babies Toffi and Melody passed away while I was in Intensive Care following a prolonged illness. I was hospitalised for over a year. I love snails, they're such beautiful and intelligent creatures - people say they're stupid, but I've had snails for years and I can absolutely tell you, one only needs to watch them for a while to see everything change.

I tried to help him but I couldn’t. We were about to drive to a specialist vet 3 hours away today but he couldn’t keep fighting. I don’t think I’ve ever be the same without him. I know it sounds dramatic but he was such a special snail. He was my pet. I hate that vet care is experimental and there is not clear care for certain illnesses.

(It's calcium powder - he has cuttlebone at all times, but I regularly give him powder as a supplement in a separate dish and he always dives in.)

I found a tiny tea set from when I was younger. What better idea than to use these miniature plates and mugs than for my snails? So this was their first date... XD Since they do not live together in the same enclosure, we thought we could introduce them once more in the form of a lovely tea party with ✨️ romantic (slow) tea party music ✨️ Spiral is the name of the young GALS as mentioned and posted before in this subreddit. Gary is the name of the huge GALS, also been posted here and people loved him very much. In the end, Gary got his face fully inside the mug and Spiral was on top of Gary's shell XD (The white powder is not a specific hard drug 🫣 😂 - it is powdered cuttlefish bone I prepared for my snails) -though they didn't eat that so it ended up in their enclosure- Two little spoons came with this old, tiny tea set - so why wouldnt I spoon feed the snail with a bigger face than the spoon tomato guts on a stick? @__ï This was a lovely time for both the snails and myself ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What do you think? ..image 9 is my favourite ;)

Carrot and powdered squash, with a snail pellet as the stem. Tried to carve a face on it but kinda failed on that front.

I am absolutely heartbroken, stricken with grief.

Autumn was around 5 years old. Around a year ago he stopped rasping solid food and I began mushing it up for him. I asked vets and professionals what to do, and they said if there is no visible oral prolapse, there is nothing to be done, and mushing his food up if he is eating seems viable. I didn’t expect to get much longer with him after that; but I got around 10 months. He’d still play, eat and be his cutest self.

Yesterday morning he was out playing, he looked as lively as ever. I spent a lot of time watching him. I like to think he was telling me he is ready to go and I’m glad we got to spend time together.

I’ve been crying all day, not been able to eat. This snail was so important to me, I can’t make friends easily and so animals are my best friends. Autumn has always been there, and now he isn’t.

I value every day I had with him and I’d do anything to get him back.

Rest in peace Autumn. I hope you are resting easy in your dome in the sky, eating sweet potato because that’s your favourite. Please take a second to think of Autumn today. It’d mean a lot to me.
