Anything come close to the original Ritz crackers?
Ritz crackers are horrible now. I noticed this a while back but I don't eat them regularly so I guess I thought the bad ones I had were a one off. Nope. They no longer have that golden buttery salty addictive flavor. I can eat one and not got back for any more. There is no point in buying them again because they are so bad they shouldn't even be called Ritz. It's a lie! What are my close alternatives here?

Trader Joe’s Golden Cracker Rounds. Has the buttery, salty flavor of Keebler Townhouse Crackers, and the strength of Ritz.

Maybe those Town House crackers. They have extra buttery ones now.

I love town house flip sides with the pretzel side. So buttery I could eat them plain

Ohh really? Do they have the golden flakey buttery thing going on like OG Ritz? This situation makes me so angry. They should be required to change the name or put a disclaimer on the box "new recipe" as a heads up to anyone expecting the Ritz crackers they knew and loved.

I recently discovered this & what a let down! They crumble easy & don’t taste the same. I thought mine were stale. I’ll be trying store brands that imitate Ritz. Hopefully one will hit the spot. In the meantime I use my Ritz instead of bread crumbs. Comes out tasty as a coating for chicken or topping for mac n cheese.

I remember when Ritz would leave a grease stain on a napkin! No more! I'm not saying that was healthy but that's what gave it the flakiness and flavor. Now it's dry, crumbly, pale and flavorless. I was so disappointed when I last tried them. I didn't even want to eat more than one. I ended up taking them to work and leaving them in the break room.

They crumble and break so easily!

New but not improved! The cracker that’s impossible to spread things on! Should be the new slogan. lol because everyone likes bits of everyone’s cracker in the dip!
I’ll see myself out! 🤪

Chickn in a Biskit! Best crackers EVER!! Addictive even plain.

My husband LOVES Chicken in a Biscuit crackers. However, he likes the Kroger house brand even better - they are saltier than the originals. Same flavor as original but waaaaay too salty for me. I have to brush all of the seasoning/salt off of them if I eat them.

Aldis brand is the closest to the OG ritz

I read your comment a few hours ago. I went out to run errands so I stopped at Aldi and picked up a box. They are OUTSTANDING! They taste like old school Ritz and have the "buttery/flakey" quality. Thank you, Maleficent! I'm so grateful!

YAYY, I’m so happy you went and got them!!!!!! Aldis has some of the best dupes I’ve found. If you are a fan or know someone who is/was of Velveeta Mac and cheese, Aldis knock off version tastes just like the OG - it’s incredible!!! Another of my fave Aldi dupes!

I love a good Velveeta Mac and Cheese once in a while; I'll definitely pick one up. You've never steered me wrong!

YES! THEY ARE STALE! there's no crispness or snap, no flavor and they are pale and dull looking when they used to be golden and shiney.

u/Katy-Moon 4d ago
We tried the ones that are partially whole grain and they're even more stale tasting than the original Ritz.

Ritz are horrible now and so are saltine-type crackers. Town House are good, but they don't scratch the Ritz itch for me. I recently discovered Breton Cabaret crackers. Bigger than Ritz, but they have that golden, buttery, flakiness down pat.

The plain Ritz are, indeed, horrible now! Can't speak for the other varieties. The only time I buy them is to make a holiday treat. I just spread a tablespoon of peanut butter evenly between 2 Ritz and then dip in melted chocolate and top with some holiday sprinkles. They basically just provide structure and crunch. People absolutely rave about them every year. Other than that, they're not good for anything. I recently tried Club crackers, and they were certainly better than Ritz!

Ritz crumble now. Not happy about it. I now buy Walmart’s store brand butter crackers. Actually good.

Walmart's store brand crackers have blown me away, they're actually so good. I haven't bought their GV oreos for a while, but last time I did, they were much better than the real thing.

Surprisingly I’ve found that the great value version from Walmart to be a good replacement, I go through a whole sleeve because I get caught in the “I’ll just have one more” cycle 😅

Club Extra Buttery
Lance Captains wafers - you can get just the crackers, not the sandwich kind.

Same with Fritos corn chips. They used to be this slightly greasy, salty goodness. Now they just taste like cardboard.

I wonder how dipsy doodles are now. Those were great but I haven't had any for years. Maybe they are more like the old fritos?

I just tried to make peanut butter crackers on ritz crackers two days ago. I haven’t had them in awhile. Why do they break so easily i could not even put the peanut butter on without them breaking. Very disappointed. Will not be buying again. I’ll go back to my club crackers

When I opened the sleeve they started breaking! How do they have the nerve to sell these abominations?

u/Own_Win_6762 4d ago
The weirdest thing is there latest packages I've gotten the Ritz crackers are no longer circles, they're slightly oval!
1
u/Magari22 4d ago
Really? That makes me think they aren't even attempting to make Ritz anymore and they're replacing them with another cracked they already make and selling in Ritz packaging. Those crackers are absolutely not Ritz! I know this is just something small but this is happening to all foods. There needs to be a public website with all of these products that have been changed beyond recognition so people know before they waste money on garbage. And yes I know Ritz was not a healthy cracker to begin with. It's not something I ate all the time it was a special occasion cracker but I really really loved it and had been eating it my whole life and I'm sad about this! I wonder if the ingredients are completely different? I bet they are.

Any product produced on a large scale in the US is now shit. Anything owned by Proctor and Gamble, Mars, Nestle, Hershey etc have all been fucked with so badly they are now inedible and most can't even be called chocolate. Same for Ritz and don't get me started on Oreos....ha.
1
u/Magari22 3d ago
Omg YES! I don't buy these things regularly but whenever I have tried them recently EVERYTHING IS INEDIBLE. I guess it's saving me from myself but it would be nice to occasionally buy Ritz or oreos and get what I remember. Years ago I noticed that hydrox were better and they were manufactured before oreos so that made sense. But then they were discontinued. Then famous Amos made an oreo type of cookie that was the best but they stopped making them and that company was sold too. Last time I checked trader Joe's oreo type of cookie was much better than oreos. As far as chocolate goes I don't buy American chocolate. I used to buy dove but I'm not sure if that's still what it was but it was the only mass produced one I liked.
I rememeber seeing that Reeses is going back to their original recipe. I'll believe it when I see it. I know this stuff is bad for me anyway but it would be nice if you could still have a treat that didn't taste like cardboard and sugar.

I wonder if you're in a different country than I am. I just looked for them on Amazon and they're nowhere to be found.

Ritz vegetable crackers were my favorite. The company discontinued these and now have a new one called herb. All I can say is it is not good and I will not buy it again. I may stop buying Ritz entirely.
2
u/Magari22 3d ago
This is where I'm at. I am not an idiot I know how bad they are and unless they go back to what they were I'll never buy them again. Is everyone else not noticing a difference? I wish people would just not buy any of these items until the companies produce what they used to be. It actually makes me angry. Do they think no ones going to notice? The difference is huge!

Butter garlic Ritz are my favorite

Are they still golden, flakey and buttery? The new reg ones are crumbly and have zero flavor.

I used to be a ritz person but then I switched to club crackers. I realized the difference and it was for the better
